Tired of BPS Rip-Offs
smalljaw  05/24/2004 - 20:44
I'll admit it I am a very cheap guy. I hold out and buy most things on sale, including fishing tackle. I look forward to the BPS sale flyers that come in the mail. When there is something on sale that I use alot of I make the special trip over there and stock up on as much as I can afford/use. The last couple of times I have been over there I haven't looked at my receipt until I've gotten home. Both times I DID NOT GET THE ADVERTISED SALE PRICE on some of the items that I purchased. It is was only a couple of extra bucks which isn't really a big deal but it seems very dishonest to me. It would be like me going into BPS and deciding that they wouldn't notice (until it was too late!) if I just took a few things. To me both sides are STEALING. I am going to finish up using my points at BPS and be done with them. Their link will be removed from this site as soon as I am done with this story.

If anybody wants to advertise their HONEST bait and tackle shop here then send me a note at smalljaw at mdfishing dot org and I will be happy to provide a link and possibly a web page for specials on this site. Send them to me, I need a few new suppliers for things like worms, tubes, grubs, jig heads, and hooks.

If you continue to shop at BPS yourself then I suggest that you verify your receipt before you leave the store.

Jeff,,,,?
oppiey  05/25/2004 - 20:46    Jeff, are you sure the flyer that you have is for this date? I have a flyer here at the house that has a sale for this weekend. It has ben here for about a week,, Nto saying anything bad, just check the date on the sale add,, Idid go ther to buy something on sale once with flyer in hand, was not happy when the prices came up different. I showed them the flyer and its prices and they showed me the date on it that the sale started.

Phil

Flyer is in the recycle now...
smalljaw  05/25/2004 - 21:50    Phil, I may have been wrong about the dates. The specific items that I got taken on were Stik-0's for 3.99 (charged 4.99) and Zoom Plastics 25% off. Funny how I got the Magnum flipping tubes for 1.89 which was the price in the ad that I had relied on. I had the special boating one if you got the same one.

I'm incline to agree!
Captwalleye  05/25/2004 - 04:54    You have to watch out always, and with everybody it seems these days. What a drag!I've gotten to the the point where, when and where ever I shop.I keep track of the count of my items, and watch the scanner prices,as each item is scanned. When something doesn't jive, stop the cashier, and get it corrected. For the most part YOU are on your own,to get a fair shake with your transaction.Be ready,
because the customer is always right commitment is a thing of the past.Man! Isn't progress wonderful? A puzzled consumer! The Capt.

Agree...
smalljaw  05/25/2004 - 12:15    Capt. I agree that the burden is on me and I should have been doing what you suggested. I guess that I just feel like they either 1) aren't taking the care to make sure they are charging the right prices on things or 2) are being intentionally deceptive. While number 2 is not likely to be the case I do know that it has been shown in the past that some grocery stores intentionally follow those kinds of practices. The real question is which one is the case with BPS? Well, it won't matter to me anymore because I am not buying from their retail outlets again. I hear that their web store is a different business and if I can't take the BPS cold turkey then I may consider just mail order in the future.

Looks like we go a good weekend coming up!!
Take Care and get out there and fish a little.
