Farm Pond 6-12-10
Steve826  06/12/2010 - 21:15  Trip Reports  Farm Pond  Roll Your Own    Fished a Frederick County farm pond with my dad this morning from 8:30-11:30. It was sunny and very warm out. Dad did much better than me today, he caught 4 bass and a bluegill. I caught one bass and one bluegill. All of his fish came on a Mepps # 2. My bluegill came on Berkley Gulp! Maggots and my bass came on a Berkley Gulp! Nightcrawler. The bass I got was about 1.5-2 lbs, and the bluegill was about 8 inches and fat. My dad's biggest bass was around 1.5 or 2 lbs. Two more were dinks and the last was around a foot. Overall not a bad morning on the water but I had an off day I suppose. I guess it happens to us all. We probably would've done better had we gotten there earlier before it got too bright.
Farm Pond 4-17-10
Steve826  04/17/2010 - 11:53  Trip Reports  Farm Pond  Roll Your Own    Fished the farm pond with my dad for the first time this year. Fished from 9-11:30. Weather was sunny and very windy, temperature was in the 50's. Managed to catch 4 LM and 2 bluegill. The 4 LM came on a 5 inch watermelon red Senko and the 2 bluegill on a small Berkley Gulp! Worm. All the bass came in a 30 minute span from like 9:30-10:00, then nothing after that except the 'gills. The bass were all between 12-15 inches long and the bluegills were about 6-7 inches long. I had fun with dad and caught my first bass of the year, can't really beat that.

Well it's about time!
Captwalleye  03/10/2010 - 06:02  Trip Reports  Farm Pond    I finally got a chance to drag my carcass out and go fishin'.I slipped up to my sure thing pond and managed five Crappie and one very skinny six inch largemouth. They all fell to a 1/16 oz.craft hair jig fished staight up and also suspended one foot under a float.
I did get out earlier to the same pond before the snow, and got one Crappie and one Largemouth. The water was a whole lot colder than it is now.I saw one little turtle climb out and sun itself in the last rays of the day. That's a good sign. With the rain coming and moderate temps fishin' everywhere should take off.
So.....quit talkin
Farm Pond 10-10-09
Steve826  10/10/2009 - 13:36  Trip Reports  Farm Pond  Roll Your Own    My dad and I fished a Frederick County farm pond today from 8-12. Cloudy morning with off and on rain showers. The wind was pretty strong for the first 2 hours which made casting parallel to the shore pretty tough. I caught a total of 7 fish, 6 LM and a bluegill. My first 2 came on a 1/4 ounce red/white buzzbait burned parallel to the grass that was growing close to shore. I had a an additional 2 or 3 strikes on the buzzbait that didn't get hooked because I was fishing it pretty fast.

First fish of the day (around 1.5-2 lbs):

Farm Pond 8-29 (Read more to see pics)
Steve826  08/29/2009 - 14:43  Trip Reports  Farm Pond  Roll Your Own    Fished a farm pond this morning with my dad from 8:30-11:30. I started off with a buzzbait and had a nice little greenie take a whack at it but miss. No more action on the buzzer after that but I was really getting in the zone with it and I know I'm gonna have to try it again next time I get out. My dad started throwing a Strike King Bleeding Tube in pearl pepper and caught a decent 11 inch LM, and then maybe 10 minutes later he caught a nice 14 inch LM, which unfortunately swallowed the tube. We tried to get it out but couldn't so we cut the line next to the hook and revived & released it, it swam away as soon as I released it and as far as I know it didn't die, but I can't imagine a bass could live with a tube stuck in it's throat, but who knows. I started throwing a weightless rigged Hardnose worm in junebug but couldn't get a bite on that. I threw an F03 floating Rapala for a bit as well with no takers. Starting to get a little frustrated, we walked around to the dam end of the pond. I threw a tube right up next to the dam, twitched it, got bit, swing and a miss. Casted right back to the same spot, twitched it again, the line got tight, I set the hook, fish on, he stayed on just enough that I could see he was a good 2-3 pound fish, maybe bigger, and then I felt the line go slack :( That is seriously one of the worst feelings in fishing. No more bites for awhile so I said the hell with it and switched to a Berkley Gulp! Nightcrawler under a bobber on my ML rod w/ 6 lb test and started catching fish. First it was just a couple 5-6 inch bluegill. I walked farther down to the corner near the dam and threw the crawler out there. It's out for a few seconds and the bobber disappears. Hook set, fish on! It was a nice 14 inch LM.
Farm Pond 6/20: NPB Largemouth
Steve826  06/20/2009 - 12:50  Trip Reports  Farm Pond  Roll Your Own    This morning, my dad and I went fishing at a farm pond in Frederick County. Fished from 8:15-11:30 AM. In short, this was the best day of fishing I have ever had by far. The weather was great for fishing, not so much for being outside, but we dealt with it. Heavy rain showers, clouds, etc. I started out with a topwater and landed the first fish of the day within five minutes, a 13 inch largemouth. Soon after, my dad hooked up a decent one on a grub, and then another that was real nice, around 16-17 inches long and maybe 2.5 pounds. It didn't take long until I put down the topwater rod and got the soft plastics rod out, and the real fun began. Within the next hour and a half, I caught three nice largemouth on wacky-rigged Senkos and a fourth that released himself as I reached down to lip him. We took a short break from plastics for a bit and switched to Berkley Gulp Nightcrawlers. The citation bluegill I caught at the same pond a month ago was on the Gulp, so we thought we'd see if there were any takers this time. I casted next to an algae mat a few feet away from shore. All of a sudden, my bobber went straight down underwater, and stopped. I set the hook to feel a heavy weight, then it moved. Keep in mind I was using my light rod/reel with 6 pound test. After a great fight, with lots of thrashing around, I reached down into the pond and lipped my new personal best largemouth bass.

Farm Pond 5-16 (click Read More to see pic)
Steve826  05/16/2009 - 11:48  Trip Reports  Farm Pond  Roll Your Own    This morning my dad and I went fishing at a farm pond that we have access to. My dad did some work for the land owner so they gave us permission to fish here. We fished for around 3 hours from 8:30-11:30. On my first cast I hooked a decent bluegill on a 1/16 ounce Floating Rapala in silver, but he threw the hook. A few minutes later another bite and I brought my first fish of 2009 to hand. It was a bluegill about 8 inches long. He swallowed one of the treble hooks though and we could not get it out so we had to release the fish with the hook stuck in its throat. It did however swim off and we didn't see it splash on the surface so I think it survived. Anyway over the next three hours we caught and released 10 fish, a new record for us. We each got 5. Only 4 total were largemouth, the rest were BIG bluegills. The average bluegill was about 8 inches. The largemouth were all pretty small, in the 9-12 inch range. Not too big I know but it was fun. But there was a real lunker waiting for me at the end of the day. I caught this citation size bluegill at 11:15 AM. About 11 inches long and I would guess about 1.5 pounds. A lot of fun, I was really excited since its my NPB for bluegill.
Time to hit the ponds
Captwalleye  11/08/2008 - 05:38  Trip Reports  Farm Pond    Yesterday evening I slipped out for a quick trip to the pond that never fails(maybe I should say hardly)Anyway....First flip with the little yellow jigs and bingo fish on.A small Largemouth that manages to get off.Flip it back in and on goes my first fish.
I landed 17 Largemouth from 4" to 12".The majority came on the jig.
I got 3 on a SJB and 4 on A wacky jack fished on a circle hook.I also got 2 Bluegills on the SJB too.
All fish were healthy and pulled hard. The water looks great. The geese haven't come in yet,and I hope they don't.It's nice to fish in clean water and enjoy the peace and quite for a change.
Minnow's First Fish - Fishing w/ My Little Girl
muskalungee  06/22/2008 - 15:19  Trip Reports  Farm Pond

What a great day! Saturday my wife stayed home with the boys and I took my little girl (and my Mom) fishing at a local pond. The weather couldn't have been better, and we were all really excited to spend the time out there together. "Minnow" (as I call her) has been practicing casting since she could walk, and she was ready to go and see if she could land her first fish on her own. She's gone with me a couple times, but I typically hook them and she reels them in....this time would be different.

We started our planning by catching night crawlers around the yard (and yes she loves to catch worms...that's my girl) and then we decided to cover our bases and swing by Fox's for a couple dozen minnows as well. We got to the pond and got her and Gannie all set up...and it was all over from there. She set the hook, and reeled in each of the 5 fish all by herself and was almost as excited by the whole thing as her Daddy was.

Oh yeah, as you can see from the video she even held each of the fish all by herself...that is something totally new! She even got smacked in the face by the 2nd Crappie (you can see in the video), but she handled it like a champ and just rolled with the punches.

That's my Girl! :)
One Proud Papa,
