Farm Pond 10-10-09
Steve826  10/10/2009 - 13:36  Trip Reports  Farm Pond  Roll Your Own    My dad and I fished a Frederick County farm pond today from 8-12. Cloudy morning with off and on rain showers. The wind was pretty strong for the first 2 hours which made casting parallel to the shore pretty tough. I caught a total of 7 fish, 6 LM and a bluegill. My first 2 came on a 1/4 ounce red/white buzzbait burned parallel to the grass that was growing close to shore. I had a an additional 2 or 3 strikes on the buzzbait that didn't get hooked because I was fishing it pretty fast.

First fish of the day (around 1.5-2 lbs):

Loch Raven 9-25
Steve826  09/25/2009 - 14:24  Trip Reports  Loch Raven  Roll Your Own    My dad and I rented a boat today at the Loch. It was a lot of fun. It was actually our first time fishing from a boat. It is definitely a whole different game then fishing from shore and wading! We fished from 9:30-12:45. While the weather was nice and the boating was fun, the fishing wasn't too good. I caught one 10-inch largemouth on a split shot rigged 6 inch watermelonseed Zoom lizard. The fish hit on the drop and put up a pretty nice fight. We didn't have a fish finder or map of any kind so fishing deep water was tough. We covered quite a bit of ground in 3 hours. Mainly the coves and points near the fishing center but we ventured out into some deep water too. The spot I caught the one bass in was a drop off about 40 or 50 yards off shore. As for lures, we threw buzzbaits, spinnerbaits, tubes, shallow diving cranks, floating Rapalas, lizards, and grubs, with the lizard being the only producer.

Steve826  08/29/2009 - 14:43  Trip Reports  Farm Pond  Roll Your Own    Fished a farm pond this morning with my dad from 8:30-11:30. I started off with a buzzbait and had a nice little greenie take a whack at it but miss. No more action on the buzzer after that but I was really getting in the zone with it and I know I'm gonna have to try it again next time I get out. My dad started throwing a Strike King Bleeding Tube in pearl pepper and caught a decent 11 inch LM, and then maybe 10 minutes later he caught a nice 14 inch LM, which unfortunately swallowed the tube. We tried to get it out but couldn't so we cut the line next to the hook and revived & released it, it swam away as soon as I released it and as far as I know it didn't die, but I can't imagine a bass could live with a tube stuck in it's throat, but who knows. I started throwing a weightless rigged Hardnose worm in junebug but couldn't get a bite on that. I threw an F03 floating Rapala for a bit as well with no takers. Starting to get a little frustrated, we walked around to the dam end of the pond. I threw a tube right up next to the dam, twitched it, got bit, swing and a miss. Casted right back to the same spot, twitched it again, the line got tight, I set the hook, fish on, he stayed on just enough that I could see he was a good 2-3 pound fish, maybe bigger, and then I felt the line go slack :( That is seriously one of the worst feelings in fishing. No more bites for awhile so I said the hell with it and switched to a Berkley Gulp! Nightcrawler under a bobber on my ML rod w/ 6 lb test and started catching fish. First it was just a couple 5-6 inch bluegill. I walked farther down to the corner near the dam and threw the crawler out there. It's out for a few seconds and the bobber disappears. Hook set, fish on! It was a nice 14 inch LM.
Best of the year
Dee Tee  08/26/2009 - 15:47  Trip Reports  Potomac  Roll Your Own    My best of the year. (pic to follow) Caught and released on the big river on August 23. With the "other" seasons about to open on the 1st., I have a feeling this will be my last one for the year. Not quite C class but he was a great fighter.

Captwalleye  08/21/2009 - 19:57  Trip Reports  River  Roll Your Own    I actually went fishin'yesterday evening with my eldest daughter Samantha and her boyfriend Randy on a river near you.We were after you know what, and we did pretty good.At least two of us did.

We went to a spot that produces right regularly, and I set them both up in the two best spots to stand.I directed them as to where to cast, and what kind of retrieve to use. I just stood back and watched, and suggested little tips that could help them in their quest.

Well...I stood there for maybe fifteen minutse than decided that they had enough head start and I need to wet a line myself.A fella can only endure for so long.

Monocacy Wet Wade 8-15-09
Steve826  08/15/2009 - 12:05  Trip Reports  Monocacy  Roll Your Own    Wet waded the Monocacy this morning with my dad from 8 to 11:30. Fishing was very slow. My dad caught 1 small smallmouth and I caught 2 small bluegills. The stretch we fished had some decent looking water but we just couldn't seem to get bit? The water felt nice though, we waded up to about mid-thigh level with no problems. Stumbled around a bit on some flat rocks but nothing too bad. Well while we didn't catch much of anything at least we kept cool in the river and there's always next time I suppose. Just thought I'd share.
Saying hello- I've relocated
Reel Lunker  07/27/2009 - 16:59  Friends of MDfishing.org  Roll Your Own    Thought I would stop in and say hello. I still check the site out from time to time, as I I would rather look at fishing information than work sometimes.

As my brother stated in his post about looking for a boat I have relocated to the West Coast (San Francisco) for work. The fishing has been slow so far as I have been busy getting settled into a new city and travelling with work but hopefully starts to pick up. The emphasis around here seems to be fishing the bay and ocean for larger saltwater species and not so much freshwater, although maybe I need to venture out further. Seems like to get into some good largemouth and smallmouth fishing I need to hit up some of the reservoirs which seem to be about 2-3 hours away, and are best fished with a boat which I lack and have no place to keep one if I did.
Sunday
oppiey  07/20/2009 - 14:09  Roll Your Own    I got out a little yesterday on my little river on a stretch that I don’t think gets fished much. At around 330pm Joe and I left the house to get a little fishing in but was not sure where I was going. On 695 at 70 I was thinking Point of Rocks, but on second thought decided to go north. Headed out 140 thinking about river crossings I picked one that I thought didn’t get a lot of pressure.
We pulled the Pickup along the bank, unload the yak and canoe. River was low so the trip ended up being a wade and paddle. Only had to wade a 100 yards or so then we could paddle. The first mile or so, nothing, not even a bite. Looking up river I was seeing a lot of Herons and was wondering if they may have over fished the area. We had a red fox follow us for ten minutes or so, then he over took us along the bank while he kept a close watch on us. We saw a deer on a high back watching us, then the bank gave way and the deer came crashing down into the river for a swim. Still no fish. I pulled up on shore and stated to think about what I was doing wrong, should have had some fish by now.
