Cunningham Falls Trips 6/30 and 7/1
Steve826 07/02/2010 - 15:04 Trip Reports Impoundments Roll Your Own
On Wednesday and Thursday, my family and I went on a camping trip to Cunningham Falls State Park. We fished both evenings from around 7-9 PM. We decided to keep things simple and bobber fish with nightcrawlers. The fishing was slow on the first night, but I managed to catch a very nice redear sunfish, around 9-10 inches long.
My brother also caught 2 small bluegills on the first night.

Farm Pond 6-12-10
Steve826 06/12/2010 - 21:15 Trip Reports Farm Pond Roll Your Own
Fished a Frederick County farm pond with my dad this morning from 8:30-11:30. It was sunny and very warm out. Dad did much better than me today, he caught 4 bass and a bluegill. I caught one bass and one bluegill. All of his fish came on a Mepps # 2. My bluegill came on Berkley Gulp! Maggots and my bass came on a Berkley Gulp! Nightcrawler. The bass I got was about 1.5-2 lbs, and the bluegill was about 8 inches and fat. My dad's biggest bass was around 1.5 or 2 lbs. Two more were dinks and the last was around a foot. Overall not a bad morning on the water but I had an off day I suppose. I guess it happens to us all. We probably would've done better had we gotten there earlier before it got too bright.
Back to Vermont
TightLine 05/30/2010 - 16:57 Trip Reports Roll Your Own
I've been checking in with you guys from time to time, but I hadn't been fishing at all this year until this past week. I bought my MD license a couple of weeks ago, hoping to put the boat in the water but never made it out.
My friend Duane that usually goes to Vermont with me wasn't able to make it, so I asked an old fishing buddy from back home in VA to make the journey. It was a great trip. Unlike the last couple of years which were very cold and rainy, the weather was warm and stable. It never rained once the whole trip. They actually set record highs for the date, a couple of the days we were up there.
The fish were in a pre-spawn pattern, moving into the shallows to bask in the sun. Some fish were hanging on points, and along shallow break-lines. Both John and I each caught one over 5lbs, his weighing 5lb 7oz, and mine weighing 5lb 2 oz. It was the most incredible fishing I've ever had.
There are two lakes we fish; one is know for numbers, the other for the size, and both lakes held up to their reputation. We caught so many fish one day, we actually decided to quit about 3:00 p.m. or so...the fish were coming off just about every rock you would throw to, mostly on weightless Senkos. Most of the fish were in the 1-3 lb range. The water was about 10 degrees warmer in this lake, the the fish were just going bannanas, and fought really hard.
After catching the numbers in the one lake, we decided to go for the big ones, and boy am I glad we did. We spent the next two days fishing really hard, and while we didn't catch the numbers, these fish were from 3-5 lbs and up. We got most of these on Senkos, but due to the wind that picked up, we had to add an 1/8 oz bullet sinker to be able to feel the pick-ups. Suspending jerk baits, poppers, and spinnerbaits also accounted for a few fish. Enjoy the pics! (click on the thumbnails to enlarge)

Farm Pond 4-17-10
Steve826 04/17/2010 - 11:53 Trip Reports Farm Pond Roll Your Own
Fished the farm pond with my dad for the first time this year. Fished from 9-11:30. Weather was sunny and very windy, temperature was in the 50's. Managed to catch 4 LM and 2 bluegill. The 4 LM came on a 5 inch watermelon red Senko and the 2 bluegill on a small Berkley Gulp! Worm. All the bass came in a 30 minute span from like 9:30-10:00, then nothing after that except the 'gills. The bass were all between 12-15 inches long and the bluegills were about 6-7 inches long. I had fun with dad and caught my first bass of the year, can't really beat that.
Trout Fishing 4/10
Steve826 04/10/2010 - 20:02 Trip Reports Roll Your Own
My uncle and I went trout fishing at a stream in Washington County today. Fished from 8AM to 2PM. I caught 7 rainbows ranging from 4-10 inches long and he caught about the same number with a nice 12 inch trout being his biggest for the day. We caught them on a bunch of different things- mealworms, nightcrawlers, maggots, and Powerbait. Some pictures are attached below. Nothing too big but a lot of fun anyway on ultralight gear.
UPPER POTOMAC/CANAL RESCUE CONTINUED!!
ogbudha 03/23/2010 - 09:14 Trip Tools Roll Your Own
CONCERNED RIVER USERS,
Yesterdays efforts went pretty well. We used both backpack and barge electrofishing equipment to remove two tanks of fish from the canal. We recovered mostly large carp, but also got bass, suckers, catfish, sunfish, and one large (~25”) female walleye. The guys worked hard as we removed probably 500 + lbs of carp!
We are planning to work the canal below Dam 5 tomorrow. Volunteers can meet us at the Dam 5 parking lot at 9:00 am. This area of the canal has really receded so we will be using backpack units. I think 5 or 6 guys would work for tomorrow.

2010 Solid start to the new year
ogbudha 01/17/2010 - 10:40 Trip Reports Potomac Roll Your Own
Got out New Years Day for some feeshn.
We hooked up with a few smallies 14-17 and a near 20lb carp.
Fish were in a favorite mid river spot I hit during winter months. It doesnt look like a winter hole but for some reason the fish like it. Enough protection and right bottom composition for them I guess..so it is a winter hole. Just not what youd expect to fish for smallies in the middle of frigid temps as its only 3 ft deep.
Carp hit a small tube on 6lb test...took quite a while to get in. The lucky angler who caught it was extremely pleased w/ the fight and complained of his arm being sore.
