I think i missed the spawn
plad99frc 04/28/2011 - 08:50 Fishing Reports Impoundments
Fished one of my favorite frederick county lakes yesterday morning from about 8am till 1130. I was hoping to see some big females on the beds so i could do some sight fishing. I saw beds EVERYWHERE thoughout the shallows but none had fish on them. I probably caught 25 bass total along the shoreline below the beds in deeper water on a suspending jerk bait. Is it possible the recent spike in temperature caused the spawn? I didnt get the water temp but it felt alot warmer than the last time i was out in late march. Either way, the fish are active and definately turned on.
Rocky Gorge Skunk
DanMarino 04/04/2011 - 07:00 Fishing Reports Impoundments
On Sunday afternoon I hit the upper section of Rocky Gorge Reservoir with no success. Water was a little clearer than Triadelphia Reservoir. The only fish I saw was a dead bluegill. Found some neat structure areas, but no takers. It was neat fishing a new place. Hopefully in a few weeks the fish will move shallow.
I've got a scuffed up thumb!

I finally got out yesterday and went for it.I went up the river and was greeted by high, very off color water.I was also greeted by new "No Parking" signs at a particular place I frequent this time of the year.I took a chance and pulled over than bailed over the bank.Made six or seven cast with a SJB with no action and left.I was appalled at what I saw laying along the guard rail as I left besides the usual trash."Hypodermic needles".Three of them.Your going to have to be extra careful of where you walk now.
From there it was a pond.I had the same SJB on and on the first cast had a small Largemeouth follow, hit, get hooked and escape in less time than it took to type this. That was a good sign.In the next three hours I landed 34 largmouths from 7-12".The first dozen came on the SBJ (play with your pause time),than I switched to a 1/8oz hair jig (fished slooow across the bottom)and started really kickin'rearend. My best was eight in a row.

Potomac Report - Columbus Day
DanMarino 10/12/2010 - 10:23 Fishing Reports Potomac
I fished by myself on Columbus Day from about 9AM-12:30PM. Hit my normal spots on the Potomac. The river was up some and a little dirty. About 4 feet visibility. I had trouble locating fish and fish were not really in the areas that I had found them in the summer.
Caught one smallie on a jerk bait. Got tired of taking all the grass off the trebble hooks and switched to throwing a tube. Caught 6 more smallies. Largest fish was about 14 inches. Had several others that were 13 inches that fought well.
Beautiful day on the water with not much boat traffic.

Local Stream
Reel Lunker 04/12/2008 - 08:53 Fishing Reports Roll Your Own
took advantage of the nice weather yesterday and slipped out of work early. went to chase some trout in a local stream. Caught my first one, a 13-14" rainbow trout, a pretty looking fish. snapped a pic on my phone because I knew my friends wouldn't believe me and let it go. That is only my second time out for trout this year, but it is real relaxing out there in the woods with a spring fed stream as your background noise. plus those fish can put up a good fight on an ultra light rig.

Wading the Potomac
biggiesmallie 06/22/2006 - 09:53 Fishing Reports Potomac
Dee Tee- thanks for the hook up on the spot. I fished there yesterday evening for about 3 hours. I was a little apprehensive about wading at first, but once I waded around a while I felt comfortable. We waded all over. What a playground for fish. Caught about 12 to 14 bass. Mostly in the eddys. Most were good size with the largest being over a pound.
Point of Rocks (VA side)
biggiesmallie 06/19/2006 - 10:49 Fishing Reports Potomac
Fathers Day me and my pal waded the Potomac by Point of Rocks on the Virginia side. We did not get out to the water until about 10. The water was low and clear, mid 70s. We entered the river by hiking through some private property near Catoctin Creek. We caught mostly smallies and an occasional large sunny. The fish were caught where there was a greater current. Pretty obvious in the middle of the day, the fish will look for the coolest water. Used a couple different spinners (agila 2, blue fox 1, but was most successful on old reliable, Rappala F-7 floater. We were able to walk about a mile up the river. Only got to fish for about 3 hours because my wife was having a hissy fit, even though it was my first Fathers Day. The 3 hours were definetely the most enjoyable of the day.
Crankbait Crawfish
TrailMix 06/18/2006 - 21:48 Fishing Reports Monocacy
I started my day at Michaels Mill with a fly rod using nymphs, dry flies, and poppers. First above the dam, cought two nice long ear sunnies, no smallies, using a beaded nymph. Then I worked my way across the river after changing to a dry fly, caught two more sunnies but was I working really hard to get what I got. Switched to a white popper and things changed real quick. By this time I was below the dam and working my way back across the river. I lost count of the sunnies and figured I was probably catching one smallie for every five sunnies. It was a lot of fun. It was about noon and I was hot and hungry. Got back to the truck, drove home, had lunch, took a nap, jumped back in the truck and headed to Lilly Pons bridge.
Walleyes near dam 4 and 5
Walleye Fanatic 03/21/2006 - 10:50 Fishing Reports
Fished the dam 4 and 5 areas last weekend and the river was really low.....we caught 5 walleyes (all less than 15") and 1 smallmouth. We need rain badly and I don't remember the river being this low since August, if that.
He Captain, I saw your pics of the walleyes from early February...nice, where did you catch them?
