Fishing Shirts
Reel Lunker  05/29/2008 - 11:59  Friends of MDfishing.org  Roll Your Own    I think this t-shirt is rather fitting for a certain member of this site. Maybe he already has one, but if not, this website should be getting an order soon.

5 Year Anniversary Coming Up
smalljaw  11/01/2007 - 21:39  Friends of MDfishing.org  Roll Your Own
The end of this year will be 5 years on the web for MDFishing.org. In that 5 years there have been a few diehards and a few fleeting members. I have the itch to revamp and upgrade the site. I am asking this without consulting my partner in crime and very close friend, Muskalungee.

Question is what would make us better?
We have been basically a glorified blog and there isn't anything wrong with that. I, actually, like that very much. It works for me. Easy to maintain and no airs about us. We do what we say and we say what we do.

For example:
By design and in that time we have NEVER pimped anything. EVER! Muskalungee and I talked about why that was the right thing to do a long time ago. It was a very good decision. I am seriously reconsidering that position. There are a couple of products that I think NEED to be pimped by some of us. Case Plastics is the de-facto example. I have been using Charlie's stuff for a long time. Case products are good, very good. How do we pull that off and maintain integrity? Is it even possible?

Should we do start pimping things that are just flat out the way to go?

Next steps:
What do you think about a mid-winter focus group? We can do a firehouse breakfast somewhere and Mike and I can get the ideas we need to finish the job. Bottom line is that I want this to be all about us because that is what matters. I don't really give a crap what other people are doing.

Tell me your thoughts.

More to come!

Tube Fishing ???
Reel Lunker  09/07/2007 - 09:06  Friends of MDfishing.org  Monocacy  Roll Your Own    Hey quick question. I tried fishing with tubes for the first on the monocacy the other morning, after I realized the top water bite was not there. It was nice, because shortly after I landed my first fish on the tube (nice smallie). Unfortunately, it was gut hooked. I was throwing a 4" tube on a pre-poured jighead with rattle. The smallmouth inhaled the bait, and end up hooking below the gills. I was able to get the hook out, but am not sure if the fish made it. I tried to keep water moving through the gills, and not have out of the water for to long. After that fish, I got several more bites, however, I kept trying to set the hook early in the bite to avoid gut-hooking another and lost them.
Planning a Float Trip; Need help!
Heritage  07/24/2007 - 10:31  Friends of MDfishing.org  Potomac  Roll Your Own    I've been following MDFishing.org for over a year now and have really enjoyed everyones stories, trip reports and general passion for fishing. I've explored many stretches of the Monocacy and the Potomac yaking in pursuit of smallies. I love it. Every trip brings different surroundings with shalllow and deep pools with Mother Nature watching over me.

Now I'm trying to plan a trip to the North Branch of the Potomac, below Jenning Randolph Lake. I've read great things about this area but I'm looking for more information. I'd like to plan a 2 day trip in August, prior to the Dam release at JRL, with an overnight on the river. Here's my questions: My thought is Day #1 to put in at Barnum, MD and take out at Luke, MD. I've read this is about 5 miles/ 5 hrs.. Day #2 Luke to ?. I'm looking for info on the river, fishing, campsites or better float trips in this area. All are welcome to come, let's go on an adventure.
Reel Maintenance / Spinning reels
BaconSlayer  06/18/2007 - 14:41  Friends of MDfishing.org    I was hoping some of the people on here might be able to give me some tips on proper reel maintenance. Over the past several years I have accumulated several rods and reels that I try and take care of to the best of my ability. Does anyone know what things you should do to a rod/reel to keep it in proper smooth working order? I clean them with warm water after use but should I oil them and if so where? and with what kind of oil? and how often? I see things for sale but not sure of what to buy and how actually to use them. I am also afraid that if I start to take to much apart I wont be able to get it back together. Thanks in advance for any help.
14 ft Sit on Top Kayaks were perfect for the monocacy!
BaconSlayer  06/12/2007 - 13:27  Friends of MDfishing.org    If anyone is looking for a great deal on these same kayaks, the guy we bought them from had two more Perception illusion kayaks for sale as well for $425. The kayaks were in excellent condition, so much that the price tags and the stickers with the specs were silll on them. The two others he had were in the same condition. PM me and I would be happy to get you his information. My brother and I now just need to get the MDfishing.org stickers for the side to go along with our shirts.
