Here's what I need right now.
1 - If you're interested in the float
2 - If you have a boat to fish from (kayak or canoe)
3 - If you have room for another in your boat or an extra vessel to share with someone who doesn't have a boat
I went down to my neighborhood spot on a major tributary to the potomac thursday evening. This place is 8-15' deep and had a pretty strong back-flow going. Once i switched to a 1/4 oz jig head and a gulp emerald shiner, twitching along bottom, it didnt take long to get my first bass of the year. First one was about 13 inches, about 10 mins later a nice fat 17 incher.
I've never been to the particular area I fished when the water was down so low.Whoa! What a surprise.
The wind was suppose to be 5-10 mph well....I think it was more like 10-20.It overpowered the current easily and made for a very frustrating trip.
I threw a buzzbait and had a total of five blowups with two fish landed. Both were right around 10" long.I also threw a wacky jack on a circle hook.I caught my best fish of 14.25" on the first cast with it,and only had one other hit.The wind just got too bad.
I went to a spot I really like that you launch from a stream mouth. It had rained earlier that morning, and the stream was running pretty good and the water looked like chocolate milk.I actually got paddling and fishing at around 7am.I wanted to get there earlier but...you know how it is.
I was campaigning topwater mostly all day.A black buzzbait and a Lucky craft Sammy.I had another rod with a Senko rigged wacky style but never really fished it too much.
We went to a spot that produces right regularly, and I set them both up in the two best spots to stand.I directed them as to where to cast, and what kind of retrieve to use. I just stood back and watched, and suggested little tips that could help them in their quest.
Well...I stood there for maybe fifteen minutse than decided that they had enough head start and I need to wet a line myself.A fella can only endure for so long.

Ive been getting out alot lately and the river has been fishing tough. Solid quality fish..but the numbers are WAY down. Very concerning as Im not seeing the quantity of bites and chunky 2.5-3.5lbrs I normally see. I have however already seen 2 sweet CHUNKY C classes. One went deep into the 5's and the other fish went just under 5 ( boga showed it at 5 but Ill call it 4.75 to be safe)
One fish came off a burned jerkbait and the other off a tube in HEAVY flood waters.
My jets in the shop so Ive been bumming rides off a buddies jet and rowing my raft when water levels allow it.
Ill get the pics up as soon as Muskalungee hooks me up.

Well, I finally broke the 20" mark. I must say I never thought it would happen. I've be *this* close so many times with 19"+ fish, and when this fish took my jerk bait I thought for sure I was going to come up short again. Then it happened, the fish took off towards the back of the boat and my line crossed with one of the Capt's rods that were leaning on the transom. "Great", I thought to myself. "I'm going to lose this fish." But as always, the Capt was cool and took care of it. He netted her and then said, "This might be it, Mike." And it was. 20" on the mark.
Overall, it was a real tough bite that day. We had to work hard for those fish, and found some in deep water and some in staging areas. We caught some on jerk baits, and some on plastics. I think the Capt caught a fish on every bait he threw except the inline spinner.
Here are a couple more pics of the fish we caught that day:

I'll post on the other drama of my weekend a bit later.
