Open Invitation - MDfishing.org Gathering, Columbus Day October 10, 2005

Every year on Columbus Day Jeff and I float the Upper Potomac from Bond's Landing to Little Orleans. This year the MDfishing.org membership has exploded and we've been trying to find a way to get everyone together to finally meet in person and do a little fishing. We've decided to open this trip up to all who are interested. No real details yet, we're just trying to gauge interest.

Here's what I need right now.
1 - If you're interested in the float
2 - If you have a boat to fish from (kayak or canoe)
3 - If you have room for another in your boat or an extra vessel to share with someone who doesn't have a boat

Potomac River may need your help once again.....please read if your user and friend of the Potomac River

The Potomac River is forecasted to severely flood in the upcoming week. The high water is predicted to crest at 32 ft @ the POR gauge. When this occurs it will crest the C/O canal in multiple locations. This high water event will cause many fish to be become stranded and trapped in the normally dry C/O canal. Then as the water receeds these fish become stranded and they will ultimately perish as the water slowly drains back out of the once dry canal. We are in need of a few volunteers to assist with recovery efforts through the Washington,Frederick and Montgomery County areas. This same exact event occured this spring as well as the spring prior and recovery efforts saved thousands of fish.

Potomac River Fish Recovery Efforts..... HELP AND VOLUNTEERS NEEDED!!!!!!!! Please help spread the word!!!!‏

The Potomac River flooded last week and crested the C/O canal in multiple locations. We specifically need individuals who are going to be in chest high, muddy, rock infested, logjam filled water. ( paints a pretty picture doesn't it?) I need thick chest waders, no slip ( no felt) boots ,etc. Individuals should be prepared to get dirty and work very hard in and around boulders, downed trees and mud. This is very labor intensive work and in very difficult work environment.

What's Up with Riversmallies?

The site has been showing a suspended account page for a couple of weeks now. Google put me onto this http://ozarkanglers.com/forums/index.php?showtopic=25086

Doesn't look good. I won't pretend to ever be able to take up the slack but MDFishing is still alive and kicking if people want to congregate here.

UPPER POTOMAC.....NEED HELP ASAP

We are doing another recovery effort tommorow AND WE NEED HELP.

We are planning to electrofish the pool at Big Woods (between Taylors and Dam 4) on Monday. Our earlier recovery efforts saved the lives of several hundred fish. As the water drops ( which it is quickly doing) we need to react as quickly as possible.

I need 10 people to assist the DNR/NPS tommorow. I specifically need individuals who are going to be in chest high, muddy, cold, rock infested, logjamb filled water. ( paints a pretty picture doesnt it?) I need thick chest waders, no slip ( no felt) boots ,etc. Individuals should be prepared to get dirty and work very hard in and around boulders, downed trees and mud. This is very labor intensive work and in very difficult work environment.

Good Deal on Beavers

Heads Up!

http://caseplastics.com/ got a cease and desist from another manufacturer on their Sweet Pea product so they had to pull it off their website. It is a beaver style bait that is sized correctly for smallies. I use them ALOT. Anyway, they sold me some of their existing inventory at cost. If you like Case and beaver style baits give them a call. I bought 102 bags in all different colors for $1.15/bag. That's over 1,000 Beavers ... bwahahahahaha

Swinging by to say hello!

Have not posted since May of last year! Have been checking in every so often though! Enjoyed reading all's success stories. Did not get much fishing in since last spring due to health issues. Then fall was here and I picked up the bow! Short lived though! Had a heart-attack on 10/19/09, received a stent that evening, then transported to Johns Hopkins on 10/20/09 where I spent couple weeks. Had a Quad-bypass. Finally returned home on 11/3/09! Currently doing rehab and working out so I'll be able to paddle that boat up current on the little river come spring! Can't Wait!!!!! Good Luck to all!

Saying hello- I've relocated

Thought I would stop in and say hello. I still check the site out from time to time, as I I would rather look at fishing information than work sometimes.

As my brother stated in his post about looking for a boat I have relocated to the West Coast (San Francisco) for work. The fishing has been slow so far as I have been busy getting settled into a new city and travelling with work but hopefully starts to pick up. The emphasis around here seems to be fishing the bay and ocean for larger saltwater species and not so much freshwater, although maybe I need to venture out further. Seems like to get into some good largemouth and smallmouth fishing I need to hit up some of the reservoirs which seem to be about 2-3 hours away, and are best fished with a boat which I lack and have no place to keep one if I did.

Virginia’s Pending End-User Poultry Litter Regulation
Prepared By: Jeff Kelble –Shenandoah Riverkeeper

Virginia is about to take its biggest step ever in regulating the poultry industry. For anyone who uses the Shenandoah for drinking water and recreation, this also represents the greatest opportunity you may ever see to help improve the health of the Shenandoah River, Eastern Shore and the Chesapeake Bay. I urge you to take the time to read this paper, and then file comments on the pending regulation.
ENJOYABLE MORNING FISHING!

Finally met and fished with a "MDfishing" member, Tightline! And a very enjoyable outing it was! Good conversation, and reminiscing of common "fishing holes" we both had visited in the past. This was the first time I've ever met and fished with anyone in the "blind". Boy have I been missing out on some good experiences! As it was my worst fears came true! The fish would not cooperate. They are in what I call the "FUNK"! With all the rain, 10 days of continuously cloudy weather, and temps. all over the charts, these lake fish are all screwed up. However, I believe what we were experiencing as we were on the water, was a influx of males moving to the shallows and stumps fanning out beds.

cold water Smallies

Got out on a river not near you. Had to get a few things fixed on the boat and trailer. Afterward I asked repairman Tom if he wanted to go out for a few hours. So away we went. Water was stained and co co cold. 35deg, air temp about 40. We managed to pick up three. Tom got two on a jerk bait and I one on a hair jig. Three in two hours. Hope that didn't spoil me for the rest of the winter. Felt good to get out. Looking forward to New years.
