Loch Raven 9-25
Steve826  09/25/2009 - 14:24  Trip Reports  Loch Raven  Roll Your Own    My dad and I rented a boat today at the Loch. It was a lot of fun. It was actually our first time fishing from a boat. It is definitely a whole different game then fishing from shore and wading! We fished from 9:30-12:45. While the weather was nice and the boating was fun, the fishing wasn't too good. I caught one 10-inch largemouth on a split shot rigged 6 inch watermelonseed Zoom lizard. The fish hit on the drop and put up a pretty nice fight. We didn't have a fish finder or map of any kind so fishing deep water was tough. We covered quite a bit of ground in 3 hours. Mainly the coves and points near the fishing center but we ventured out into some deep water too. The spot I caught the one bass in was a drop off about 40 or 50 yards off shore. As for lures, we threw buzzbaits, spinnerbaits, tubes, shallow diving cranks, floating Rapalas, lizards, and grubs, with the lizard being the only producer.
Triadelphia?
DanMarino  09/17/2009 - 15:34  Fishing Forums and Chats  Impoundments    Hi Guys,

I've been fishing the Potomac pretty much exclusively since May, but I live just a mile away from Triadelphia Reservoir. I've never had much luck fishing at Triadelphia (especially in the hot summer weather), so I much prefer to hit the Potomac and actually catch fish.

With the approaching Fall weather, does anyone have any advice for fishing Triadelphia? Seems like no matter what I do I either get skunked or only catch one or two fish at Triadelphia. I'd love to change that. I've seen pictures of very big largemouth, smallmouth, pike, walleye, and striper that have been taken out of that reservoir. I'd love to learn how to consistently catch some fish there.
Introducing myself to the board and some recent success.
MskSlyr  09/17/2009 - 12:08    Don't typically join but was scrolling around and thought I would drop a line. Used to belong to one of the local musky boards but decided to not pursue any longer. My name is Mat Beall and I fish the Potomac as well as a lot of other Md bodies of water including ponds and lakes near Washington, Frederick, Montgomery County. My favorite two species to pursue are Muskies and Walleye but do fish for bass as well. I have had quite a bit of success with the Muskie and Walleye over the past 10 years in which some may have seen some past postings on the MD DNR site. I am the current Natural Muskie state record holder which I have held for 5 or so years now.
good morning
space inwaders  09/14/2009 - 20:42    Last saturday morning, i just couldn't sleep. It was about 4:30 am when i was tossing and turning, what was the problem? I think the river was calling, and i was listening.

Should have just got right up, but i got out of the house about 5 am and casting into the flowing water by 6 am. I was traveling light and planning to keep moving. Had my 7' med action and jerk baits.

First area was a shallow rocky shoreline with calm water below a rock pile. Few casts, nothing, i moved on to the boulder pile. Fished just downstream in the eddy, toward the shoreline. 2nd cast there, bam, right off the shore (a steep solid rock drop), a nice fighter, felt like a walleye, and it was. A nice fat 20"er.
last few weeks
space inwaders  09/07/2009 - 20:26  Trip Reports    I slacked off a little over the last few weeks, but that only means fishing once a week or so. I haven't had any special catches in the last couple weeks either. Last walleye was caught over 3 weeks ago.

Everywhere i go on the river lately, tons of minnows. Once or twice i've found fish feeding on them and had some good luck. Most times recently, no action.

I was out on one of those active evenings about 2 weeks ago, caught a couple smallies, lost a few fish that felt like walleyes, and hooked into a new personal best channel cat. This is the biggest i've seen on the upper river. 28 1/2" long and FAT. I thew my 1/16 oz jig out as far as i could with a smoke/flake 4" grub and let it sink near where i saw surface action. Tap, tap, hooked into this nice catfish. It was quite a fight on a 6'6" ml, i got it in to shore twice, only to have it pull 20' of line back out before landing it. I'd estimate this one at 12 pounds or so.
Walk To Fight Diabetes
Steve826  09/03/2009 - 18:06    Hello all,

First off, I apologize in advance if I offend anyone by posting a personal topic unrelated to fishing on this site. However, I feel that I since I have been a regular member on here for almost two years, it wouldn't be out of line to post this, and if Mike & Jeff don't want this on here, they can delete it and I'll understand.

As you may or may not know, (most of you probably do not) I am a type 1 diabetic. I have been since I was 8 years old, and I am now 16. Type 1 diabetes (also known as "juvenile" diabetes, as most cases occur in young people) is a disease that impacts millions of Americans, young and old. There is no known cause for type 1 diabetes, although many there are many theories that it is an autoimmune disorder. Unfortunately, as of today there is no known cure. However, technology is improving every year and we are getting closer and closer to a cure. The sad truth is, while insulin shots keep me alive and healthy, they are only my "lifeline", they will not ever rid me of this disease. Many people do not realize this or the severity of the disease, and how difficult it is to manage it on a daily basis.

I am participating in the American Diabetes Association Walk to Fight Diabetes this October. If anyone here would like to help fight diabetes, you can sponsor me. Any donations of any size are greatly appreciated. If you would like to make a donation, please visit this site:

Thank you very much in advance for your help to end diabetes.

God bless,

Steve

An introduction
Captwalleye  08/29/2009 - 19:56  Trip Reports  River    I hit a river near you on Friday morning and performed an introduction.A new friend to and a old and faithful friend. It was my maiden voyage with my new yak.I got a super deal on a mint T-100.It was already fishing rigged, and ready to go.So I did just that.

I went to a spot I really like that you launch from a stream mouth. It had rained earlier that morning, and the stream was running pretty good and the water looked like chocolate milk.I actually got paddling and fishing at around 7am.I wanted to get there earlier but...you know how it is.

I was campaigning topwater mostly all day.A black buzzbait and a Lucky craft Sammy.I had another rod with a Senko rigged wacky style but never really fished it too much.
Farm Pond 8-29 (Read more to see pics)
Steve826  08/29/2009 - 14:43  Trip Reports  Farm Pond  Roll Your Own    Fished a farm pond this morning with my dad from 8:30-11:30. I started off with a buzzbait and had a nice little greenie take a whack at it but miss. No more action on the buzzer after that but I was really getting in the zone with it and I know I'm gonna have to try it again next time I get out. My dad started throwing a Strike King Bleeding Tube in pearl pepper and caught a decent 11 inch LM, and then maybe 10 minutes later he caught a nice 14 inch LM, which unfortunately swallowed the tube. We tried to get it out but couldn't so we cut the line next to the hook and revived & released it, it swam away as soon as I released it and as far as I know it didn't die, but I can't imagine a bass could live with a tube stuck in it's throat, but who knows. I started throwing a weightless rigged Hardnose worm in junebug but couldn't get a bite on that. I threw an F03 floating Rapala for a bit as well with no takers. Starting to get a little frustrated, we walked around to the dam end of the pond. I threw a tube right up next to the dam, twitched it, got bit, swing and a miss. Casted right back to the same spot, twitched it again, the line got tight, I set the hook, fish on, he stayed on just enough that I could see he was a good 2-3 pound fish, maybe bigger, and then I felt the line go slack :( That is seriously one of the worst feelings in fishing. No more bites for awhile so I said the hell with it and switched to a Berkley Gulp! Nightcrawler under a bobber on my ML rod w/ 6 lb test and started catching fish. First it was just a couple 5-6 inch bluegill. I walked farther down to the corner near the dam and threw the crawler out there. It's out for a few seconds and the bobber disappears. Hook set, fish on! It was a nice 14 inch LM.
Best of the year
Dee Tee  08/26/2009 - 15:47  Trip Reports  Potomac  Roll Your Own    My best of the year. (pic to follow) Caught and released on the big river on August 23. With the "other" seasons about to open on the 1st., I have a feeling this will be my last one for the year. Not quite C class but he was a great fighter.
Will wonders never cease....
Captwalleye  08/21/2009 - 19:57  Trip Reports  River  Roll Your Own    I actually went fishin'yesterday evening with my eldest daughter Samantha and her boyfriend Randy on a river near you.We were after you know what, and we did pretty good.At least two of us did.

We went to a spot that produces right regularly, and I set them both up in the two best spots to stand.I directed them as to where to cast, and what kind of retrieve to use. I just stood back and watched, and suggested little tips that could help them in their quest.

Well...I stood there for maybe fifteen minutse than decided that they had enough head start and I need to wet a line myself.A fella can only endure for so long.
