I started off fishing a rip rapped wall close to deep water, moved along quickly and around a couple coves and points. I was fishing a 3" bright green curly tail, and a hair jig w/ gulp minnow. As dusk approached i started to work my way back to where i started. Along the way a small largemouth nailed the 3" curly tail on a point. Once i got to the rip rap wall i switched to a bass pro 3" XPS minnow. About 8 o'clock near the end of my retreive, watching the xps minnow do its thing, out of the depths ol' wally attacks the lure, makes several short drag pulling runs, but eventually calms down for the camera. This fish was approx 23 inches and my first from this shenendoah valley impoundment. It was alot of fun to watch the fish strike, and see the entire fight at my feet.

simply amazing.

I really want to change the bearings, but I have no idea how to do it. I looked online, and I'm just petrified that I'm going to mess it up and disable my trailer.
Is there anyone here that would be willing to come give me a hand and show me how to do it right? Thanks in advance!

Anyway, The Duder and I spent the last few weeks working on my boat. It started with the purchase of a new trolling motor and turned into a complete overhaul of the front deck. We decided to pull the front deck off completely to clean up the wiring and I decided that instead of putting treated plywood back on there I would endeavor to test my sheet metal skills and go with an all new aluminum deck. Then, I decided that I wanted to incorporate some real storage in there...so I bought some hatches on clearance at Cabella's....then of course I had to re-carpet the front deck. So, we're done and just in time for the river to be down at a reasonable level.
Here's the original front deck & trolling motor:

Are you ready? I am!

Yesterdays efforts went pretty well. We used both backpack and barge electrofishing equipment to remove two tanks of fish from the canal. We recovered mostly large carp, but also got bass, suckers, catfish, sunfish, and one large (~25”) female walleye. The guys worked hard as we removed probably 500 + lbs of carp!
We are planning to work the canal below Dam 5 tomorrow. Volunteers can meet us at the Dam 5 parking lot at 9:00 am. This area of the canal has really receded so we will be using backpack units. I think 5 or 6 guys would work for tomorrow.
We are planning to electrofish the pool at Big Woods (between Taylors and Dam 4) on Monday. Our earlier recovery efforts saved the lives of several hundred fish. As the water drops ( which it is quickly doing) we need to react as quickly as possible.
I need 10 people to assist the DNR/NPS tommorow. I specifically need individuals who are going to be in chest high, muddy, cold, rock infested, logjamb filled water. ( paints a pretty picture doesnt it?) I need thick chest waders, no slip ( no felt) boots ,etc. Individuals should be prepared to get dirty and work very hard in and around boulders, downed trees and mud. This is very labor intensive work and in very difficult work environment.
She's had several on the line, and lost all of the true BIG BLUES.
We headed to Tidal waters friday afternoon. We bought our DC licenses at fletcher's boat house, and gave it a quick hike and a quick try, but couldn't reach any good locations to cast, so we moved to our good luck spot down the road a ways.
We arrived with an outgoing tide, about 2 and a half hours from low tide. We reached our spot and somebody was fishing there. One fisherman, casting close to shore with nightcrawlers taking advantage of the white perch spawning run, they were in the area IN NUMBERS, the other fisherman was pulling one out about every couple minutes. We asked if we could join him, something i normally wouldn't do, but in this area its normal. He couldn't really speak english, but seemed ok with the idea.
I did get out earlier to the same pond before the snow, and got one Crappie and one Largemouth. The water was a whole lot colder than it is now.I saw one little turtle climb out and sun itself in the last rays of the day. That's a good sign. With the rain coming and moderate temps fishin' everywhere should take off.
So.....quit talkin
