From home waters
space inwaders  05/11/2010 - 20:35  Trip Reports    I haven't had much luck at my usual go-to places this spring on the bigger river. After too many long trips, a seriously limited budget has made me do something I should have done sooner- fish my home river. I fish it from time to time, i've caught good smallies, a few decent cats, an occassional LMB or crappie. DNR says musky are present but haven't seen any in my neighborhood stretch of the river. I got a tip from a friend last year that walleye were present, and i've been going after them for a few weeks. I've been fishing an area on this river not too far from home and i'm really impressed with what i've found. This area features strong flow, a channel toward mid-river with 6 foot depths or so, the bottom is rubble and gravel, and small piles and pockets are scattered throughout the area.
Rodeo This Weekend - Brunswick Campground
muskalungee  05/11/2010 - 08:42  Nut Jobs  River    FYI, there is a rodeo this weekend at the Brunswick Campground. There will be a bunch of people fishing in the area, will all congregating at the Brunswick Campground in the evening. If you've never been to a rodeo before, I recommend stopping by. It's great to meet some fellow fishing enthusiasts, swap stories, and just hang out. You don't have to camp (I don't), just swing by and say hi.

Campground Info

I'll be there Friday evening after the Capt and I are done slaying them all day. If you go, please come up and say hi. We won't be hard to find at the campground.

My turn......on a river near me
Captwalleye  05/08/2010 - 20:01  Trip Reports  River    I got up early this morning grabbed my pack and rod and headed for one of the dams on the Patapsco river. It was a fairly long walk and I arrived just as it was getting light.
I moved into a postion that allowed me to cast along a wall and commenced doing just that. The first cast was a short one because I wanted to see how the lure was swimming.I had a Lucky Craft 100 Pointer on and was using a pop pop pause retrieve. The lure was acting just the way I wanted it too and as it came closer.I saw it was being followed by a fish.I slowed down my retrieve and watched the fish follow but not strike.I guess the fish finally saw me and disappeared.
Cat fishing in the Monocacy
plad99frc  05/04/2010 - 22:29  Monocacy    Im new to the Monocacy (up around rt26) and decided to do some cat fishing tonight. I used chicken livers and fished what appeared to be a deep hole from the bank. As soon as it got dark the action went off. My first fish felt like it had some solid weight to it. i got it in by the bank and instead of trying to get in out the water right away i though id shine some light on it to see what i was workin with. It broke the line before i could get a look. Not too long later i set the hook on another fish that i eventually lost but it was definitely good sized. I finally landed one not long after that was around 23 inches. The action slowed down and bit and being a work night i was not going to spend too much time out. For the hour that i put in fishing i was amazed at how much action i got. Anyone else have good luck on this part of the monoc for cat fish? Any idea how big these cats get and what the best baits are. Im very happy with the potential so far and cant wait to get back out there!
Farm Pond 4-17-10
Steve826  04/17/2010 - 11:53  Trip Reports  Farm Pond  Roll Your Own    Fished the farm pond with my dad for the first time this year. Fished from 9-11:30. Weather was sunny and very windy, temperature was in the 50's. Managed to catch 4 LM and 2 bluegill. The 4 LM came on a 5 inch watermelon red Senko and the 2 bluegill on a small Berkley Gulp! Worm. All the bass came in a 30 minute span from like 9:30-10:00, then nothing after that except the 'gills. The bass were all between 12-15 inches long and the bluegills were about 6-7 inches long. I had fun with dad and caught my first bass of the year, can't really beat that.

eyes and suckers
space inwaders  04/16/2010 - 15:14  Trip Reports    Now that the walleye are finished spawning, I fished an area i thought may hold a couple wednesday evening. I couldn't get a wally on the line, but i did catch about a dozen smallmouth between 8 and 12 inches (mostly about 8 - 10 inches), a channel cat about 15 inches, and a fallfish. They all took a 2" Apex minnow/grub in a olive/silver color, on a 1/16 oz jig. The area was FULL of minnows and the apex minnow/grub must have been a close match.

I met SPEP when he passed by in his boat and we talked for a few. He said he jigged up 2 wallys at another nearby location. I decided to head there right before dark. I saw "mister minnows" leaving the area when i arrived. He too said the wallys were biting. i started off with a bomber long-a in gold, and a diawa DB minnow in reflective, moved around a bit and didnt have any luck. I threw the apex jig too, and it produced another fallfish, a nicer one about 12 inches and a little smally.
Loch Raven Trip
barbthebarb  04/16/2010 - 11:50  Loch Raven    Went to Loch Raven yesterday and today. I caught one bass each time on a small jig with crawdad trailer. I had a few more bites, but they spit it before i could set the hook. Even the two i caught spit it out the first time. My friends went with me today and one of them caught 1 nice bass, 1 tiny bass, and a bluegill, all on live worms.

My fish from the first day (By myself, sorry about the bad picture)
Finally Got Out!!!!
smalljaw  04/12/2010 - 19:56  Potomac    So I finally got out. Shook the boat out on the Potomac with little advice from Muskalungee and Ogbudha. Felt REALLY GOOD. It is amazing how quick things come back to you :)

Ended up with 4 smallies and a nice walleye.

Trout Fishing 4/10
Steve826  04/10/2010 - 20:02  Trip Reports  Roll Your Own    Photobucket

My uncle and I went trout fishing at a stream in Washington County today. Fished from 8AM to 2PM. I caught 7 rainbows ranging from 4-10 inches long and he caught about the same number with a nice 12 inch trout being his biggest for the day. We caught them on a bunch of different things- mealworms, nightcrawlers, maggots, and Powerbait. Some pictures are attached below. Nothing too big but a lot of fun anyway on ultralight gear.

Where is Turtle Rock at Loch Raven
luv2fish  04/06/2010 - 15:55  Loch Raven    I've been fishing Loch Raven for years and done very well at several spots. I finally got a motor that can take me further. I keep hearing about turtle Rock and I would like to go there. If anyone can help me with directions from the boat ramp I would greatly appreciate it.
