What a surprise, Tim called me yesterday, seems he has a couple days to burn and asked me if I was able to get out on Thursdsay, I aquired a kitchen pass and we decided on the big river and the big boat. Due to my eldest having an orthodontist apt, we got a late start, hit the river by 11:00.
It sure is amazing the similaritys between the Monocacy and the Potomac, but the differences in how to fish. We started off with fast, loud and big baits with no success not even a bite. Later I switched to using the old standby a 5" grub in watermelon, finally got a dink in the boat, no skunk today. We decided to anchor about 50' below a structure and find a big area of flat water and slow down, way down. Senkos seemed to do it and I got bit right away and a big jump... gone. Tim switched and we started catching nice fish, although I was using watermelon and doing well Tim tried white and I rec'd a spanking like a red headed step child. Finally I lucked into a good one and landed it. These fish were taking drag off Tims bait cast rig like nothing. This was midday on the warmest day this spring, smallies rule. What started as a slow day ended better than I could have thought.
I need to talk Tim into a yak soon, its just a cool way to fish but the jet sure is handy when you don't have a ton of time. I will send in some pics to check out.
