A long day
Captwalleye  05/03/2006 - 05:10  Trip Reports  River

Got up early this past Monday morning, and hit the road North.I was meeting my buddy Brian Kessel again to chase Smallies on the Susky. We met at a resturant along 11-15 at 0545hrs.Ate a quick breakfast, headed to and launched the jetboat.

We blasted down river to try a spot, and within a couple casts hung the first fish of the day.It was 39 degrees out,but as soon as that tap of authority transmitted up my line.I wasn't cold anymore.A nice healthy 15+ which was followed by a 18.5.These fish are incredibly thick through the body from belly to back.Everyone I managed to hook pulled HARD,and quite a few made at least one leap out of the water. We were fishing current seams below exposed islands, submerged islands, rocks, and ledges. We fished both sides of the river. The west side was clear and beautiful, and the east stained bigtime. We did best in the clear to where the two mixed. We threw a little bit of everything, but the tubes and Senkos were the real deal.

For a total of almost 12 hours on the water we boated almost 70 Smallies.Of those less than 5 were under 15".Brian had a go at a small Musky, but didn't get a hookset. That fish rolled in like a missle.Hit the lure and was gone in a flash. The odd fish were a hand size Rockbass, and 7" Fallfish.

It was a very satisfying day that just made you want to do it again. You could not ask for better weather, company and fish.

That's where you were!
muskalungee  05/03/2006 - 20:52    Sneaking away, eh Capt? I'm glad you got out there and made the road trip. That is two years in a row you got out there with him, right? Didn't it rain like crazy last year? Great report, now when are we going up there to yak it?

Muskalungeeeeeeee!

Yep!
Captwalleye  05/04/2006 - 07:25    I didn't sneak away,I just went.I've been going up there for the last 6 or seven years. The main bite has been tubes and Senkos, but have experienced Chug bug,Flukes, and spinnerbait bites. Those were all dynamite.
Yes,last year it rained and was cold.My rainsuit decided to stop working and I was miserable.I was prepared this time, though I didn't need it.
As far as a yak trip, got your Pa license and a watercraft permit? I'm game. Better to go during the week to avoid boat traffic. We'll talk Saturday.

water craft permit???
TOOBIGTOYAK  05/11/2006 - 17:16    I called about a ramp permit for my john and they said if it was registered in MD I did not need one, is this permit only if you are not registered in MD?

It figures !
Captwalleye  05/17/2006 - 05:43    Guess who can't find his manual now? I'm still looking though. If you called and they said what they said.Sounds like your good to go.

Hmmm?
Captwalleye  05/15/2006 - 04:05    I'm not sure. When I get home I'll look for my regulations book and see If I can find and figure it out.My yak is not regeistered anywhere
and the way I read and understood it had to be in PA,but now I can go anywhere in PA.and launch.I'll find out.
