The title of this report pays homage to a great artist, Johnny Cash, as well as a new secret technique that was shown to my two fishing partners and then passed onto me this weekend. This technique helped produce a record day on Loch Raven Reservoir this past Sunday. A new boat record (for Loch Raven) was set yesterday as we landed 41 fish on the day. I don't have a numbers breakdown fish wise but numerous largemouth bass and pickerel were caught as well as an appearance by a bluegill. The first one I've seen so far this year. I know it's not 129 fish and all but a great day for Loch Raven Reservoir.
The trip didn't start out so well for me in the morning as I left my cooler at home which included my lunch and drinks for the day. I didn't realize it until I was unloading my car at the reservoir and I almost packed up and went home. Luckily, I have a couple of great friends who were willing to share some of their food and away we went. First fish was landed 20 minutes into the trip around 6:28 a.m on a crankbait and the 41st fish was landed around 4:00 p.m on plastic. Biggest fish was a 3.5lb largemouth caught by me on plastic worm and my buddy Doug caught a couple of healthy 2 lb largemouth to round out the day.
The morning was a little damp and completely overcast, which in my opinion led to the numbers, the early afternoon brought a 30 minute rain shower which led to a couple of fish after we put our rain gear on, and the afternoon sun led us to the big fish on the day after the fish moved up to the shallows to warm up. The forty one fish were caught on crankbaits and plastics and all over the reservoir.
