Road Trip - Spothogg and Muskalungee Head To PA and L.D. Guide Service Delivers
muskalungee  04/21/2006 - 11:54  Trip Reports  Essays  River

A few months back Spothogg (Dan) asked me if I'd be interested in going on a guided Susky trip with him and I said "Heck Yeah!". Well, that was a great decision on my part. Spothogg hooked us up with Lance from L.D. Guide Service and we had a blast. Lance really knows his stuff and had us on the fish all day. (as you can see above)

All in all we ended up with 129 smallies in the boat. The Biggest fish of the day was that one in the 2nd picture above which was just under 19". I also picked up a Pike about 27" or so....we would have had a picture of it but I decided to try and remove the treble with my bare hand and lost control allowing him to flip out of the boat...losing my (Lance's) lure. Luckily Lance had plenty of X-Raps for us.

We had a ton of "doubles" today, about 2 "triples" or so, and something I never thought could happen....a "quadruple" hookup with only 3 anglers! Dan and I both had a hookup and then Lance hooked one and then another smallie came up and hit his jerkbait and he hooked it too! 2 15"+ smallies on one jerkbait! I think that tells you the kind of day we had out there!

What an awesome time, and I learned a lot. Lance really knows his river and his smallies and I look forward to the next trip out there with him. Muskalungeeee! -Mike

spothogg  04/22/2006 - 20:45    Don't know about you, but I'm ready to go back!

Jealous......Jealous Again
ShawnLittle  04/22/2006 - 10:29    Title of a Black Crowes song and how I'm feeling right about now. Those are some disgustingly large smallmouth you are pictured with and 129 on the day is a fairy tale number to most people but I believe and I've seen it before on the monocacy. What a great job you guys and that pretty much guarantees that I'm on that river this year.

Agreed
muskalungee  04/22/2006 - 22:15    Shawn, I thought I was living a fairy tale man. I've been on +100 trips before...but never with the quality like this trip. It was just unbelieveable. I would have to say that 100+ of our 129 were over 14". Now that is a good day. :)

Quality vs Quantity
ShawnLittle  04/24/2006 - 07:51    I'm usually a quantity guy instead of a quality guy but anytime the universe aligns together and you get both quality and quantity you know you had a special day. Once again what an amazing day!!!!!!!!

Same here
muskalungee  04/24/2006 - 09:30    I'm with you, I aslo prefer a long day with a consistent dink bite over a trophy trip with only one hit all day.

The way I see it this can end up one of two ways. Either this is the start to my best season yet....or I just cashed in for the entire season and I might as well hang 'em up. :)

...I'm not giving up that easy. :)

Oh yeah !
Captwalleye  04/21/2006 - 18:21    That is one fantastic trip story. You guys slew them. That appears to be quite a different section of river you guys fished compared to mine.I'm jealous, and I don't think I'm alone either. You guys made out like bandits.I'll bet your still grinning about it.I would.
