A long day it was...

spent most of the day fixing stuff around the house. I started putting up the net around the kids trampoline and the batteries in my cordless drill died. While they were recharging I took to repairing the trolling motor that we damaged last week at Black Hills. The fix, while time consuming, turned out to be pretty easy. I broke the whole thing down, straightened the shaft using the side of the trailer hitch on the truck, re-did the wiring, cleaned up and greased the bearings, and put it back together. As you can probably tell I am quite proud of my forced trolling motor overhaul. Back to the trampoline. Non-trivial task that included sewing the doggone thing to the base. Once that was done I was just standing there looking at the warden and she said "Go ahead". Called Muskalungee...no answer, called Coop...committed for the day...I was going alone. Hitched up the jon boat and headed for Black Hills.
Got there and launched. Beautiful day and I ran the west side of the lake almost over to the bridge. I was throwing an LC Pointer, a Rattle Trap, and a tweaked up Senko. No luck for the first hour. Then I decided to pull into a really tiny cove to get the sun out of my eyes for a few minutes and picked up a 10 incher on the Rattle Trap so I stayed back there and fished it alot harder than I normally would have. Coming out I fished the point of the cove and decided to just chuck my way down the bank even though it didn't really look that great. Well what do you know...I thought for a second that I was hung up but whatever it was was pulling back real hard. A brief battle brought the 5 pound greenie to my hand. I almost did an Iaconelli when I lipped that fish. Unfortunately I did not bring my camera so no photo. You're gonna have to take my word for it on this one.
That, as best as I can remember, is the biggest greenie I have ever landed. I wish I didn't have to go alone but I was glad I went anyway. All in all it made for a really long day but man do I feel good about the way it ended!!
