A sucessful meeting at "The Honeyhole"

I finally got a chance to go fishin'.So...I got up this morning and went looking for trouble.I went to a place that has to be hit when conditions are just right.I got the there and it was actually a bit high for what I wanted to do and the place I wanted to stand.I managed to get to a spot to try casting from and worked a 3" Swimbait and a suspending jerkbait.I got one confirmed hit on the SBJ and hooked a 7" Yellow Perch.I got one other possible hit but no hookup.Put probably forty cast into that spot and decided to move on.
I moved to another place and walked and climbed on in.The "Honeyhole" as I call it.Is a place I preferr to fish before and into daybreak and before, into, and beyond dusk.I was late but just really wanted to see what was going on there.I cast some and also moved some brush and branches around to give myself some casting room.It is a spot on a spot.Steep rocky bank with deep water right up to the shore. This place has BIG FISH potential, and has produced in the past.
It wasn't happening than so I rolled out with plans to return this evening.Got back alittle bit before 5:00pm and started casting.I like to start out fan casting to my left and sweeping around to the right.Since it's deep there I count down the grub, swimbait,or Senko to get a rough idea of the lure depth and also when the fish start biting a reference to get back to them.
Four cast into arriving as the 6"swimbait on a 1/4oz ballhead jig was sinking and had gotten to about a 12 count.I felt a boink on the line and reared the rod back and got resistance.I reeled up and pulled back again and got the sensation of animation and a sudden surge of power and drag singing. The fight was on.I'm using a 3500 Diawa loaded with 6# test.Got plenty of line for just this situation. The fish made several dashes straight out from where I stood, which was good for me.I'm limited to standing only in one spot you cannot move left ot right with out getting in the water and it's too deep for that.
Roughly ten minutes later I got the fish up where I could see it,and a moment or too after that I reached down and lipped a roughly 32" Strper.I didn't have my tape so I held it up beside my rod and it went from the butt to almost the first eye.I measured that after I got home and came up with 32".That's close enough for me.I got a picture of it,after doing some serious fish handling and camera setup.I let it go after confirming I'd got the photo.
After it swam away I started to pack up and go,but than decided to give it a couple more casts.Well....on the next cast after allowing the lure to sink to a count of twenty I started my retrieve and about half way in it stopped and the rod loaded up again.I set the hook and started fighting this one.It took about the same time to land this one,and it was just about the same size.It did feel heavier thn the other.Needless to say I was feeling a bit weary, and still had to climb out of from where I was.
That's my story...I'll get the picture posted as soon as I can.Than you can see what I've tried to describe. The fishin' is NOT over yet,so give it go and enjoy.
