Well, I finally got out to the big river for the first time since last June. TheDuder and I took a couple of days off and decided to get back in the game. We got a pretty good break in the weather and the wind wasn't too bad. The water wasn't as high as I expected, but it was moving pretty quick and turning from stained to my favorite color of "Spring/Emerald Green". Water temps varied in the low 40's, but they were definitely on the rise. All this made for some decent early year fishing, pretty typical results of low numbers but high quality smallies.
We covered a lot of water and had to work pretty hard for these fish. I was working the boat position pretty much full time, so TheDuder fully exploited my lack of concentration and put the smack down on me. He ended up with 4, and I with 1. The biggest of the bunch when 18.5", but all of them were over 16" and healthy. Typical tubes/jerks were successful, like a said we were fishing pretty aggressively so we tried all sorts of speeds/techniques and one wasn't anymore successful than another. Now that the scouting is out of the way, I think we'll slow down a bit and fish a little slower next time. :D
Headed out with El Capitan next week, should be fun (as always). You Ready Capt? :D
Muskalungeee!
