I've got a scuffed up thumb!
Captwalleye  02/28/2011 - 07:44  Fishing Reports    I finally got out yesterday and went for it.I went up the river and was greeted by high, very off color water.I was also greeted by new "No Parking" signs at a particular place I frequent this time of the year.I took a chance and pulled over than bailed over the bank.Made six or seven cast with a SJB with no action and left.I was appalled at what I saw laying along the guard rail as I left besides the usual trash."Hypodermic needles".Three of them.Your going to have to be extra careful of where you walk now.
From there it was a pond.I had the same SJB on and on the first cast had a small Largemeouth follow, hit, get hooked and escape in less time than it took to type this. That was a good sign.In the next three hours I landed 34 largmouths from 7-12".The first dozen came on the SBJ (play with your pause time),than I switched to a 1/8oz hair jig (fished slooow across the bottom)and started really kickin'rearend. My best was eight in a row.
If I can do it,than so can you.Get out there and get your self one.
A scuffed up thumb that is.
spring peepers
carpenterpete  03/01/2011 - 17:46    I watch this website consistantly but never post, I had to coment about this though. We had hundreds of Spring Peepers out last night. My kids and I cought around 50 in 15 min. Also had an 8" spotted salamander on out front porch. Spring is coming.

Pete

You guys have a great thing here. I've enjoyed it. Thanks!

good start
space inwaders  02/28/2011 - 21:24    I'd say thats a pretty good start to the year! Nice work. Thats an incredible fish count. I dont know how you can keep count at that point.

I've been seeing a lot more of all the animals lately, the activity has begun all around. I even landed my first fish of 2011 yesterday-
healthy fat 13" shenandoah smallmouth. Couldn't resist a gulp minnow on an 1/8 oz jig in a deep slow stretch.

I hit the rivers 4x during that last warm spell, had a couple bites and plastics with teeth marks, but no fish landed. It should start coming together real soon.

I also just got a canoe, look out!

Pocket notepad and pen
Captwalleye  03/01/2011 - 05:33    Thanks! I carry it to keep staight, and to keep detailed measurements
of the larger fish. When ever they do arrive.
Congrats on your first fish and a Smallie to boot.I'd much rather have that recorded in my archive than the Largemouth,but...mine will come eventually.
Congrats on your new vessel too.If you haven't gotten one yet,get yourself a PFD and wear it.Better safe than sorry.

Nice Job!
DanMarino  02/28/2011 - 10:41    Excellent job there Capt! You sure were catching them. 34 fish is outstanding.

My son and I hit a small pond and I was surprised with a heavy 18 inch largemouth. The biggest and heaviest bass I've ever caught. It took a jointed rebel minnow that I was slowly cranking back on the sunny side of the pond.

Red Ear Slider turtles are out. Spring is here!

Tom

It's time!
Captwalleye  03/01/2011 - 05:40    Thanks! That's a nice bass you got for sure.I'll bet you'll be back to that pond asap to see what else it has to offer. Now is the time for your new P.B.to come to hand.Don't let opportunity slip away.
I saw two turtles at the pond I was at too.It won't be long and you'll hear the "peepers" start calling.I'll certainly be glad of that.

3/11 hit it again
Captwalleye  03/12/2011 - 07:34    I went for about an hour and a half yesterday after work.It was rather cool and windy. The suspending jerk bait was the hands down winner.13 Largemouth and 3 fair size Bluegill. The jig only produced one Bass. The longer i stayed the colder and windier it got.
