Takin my 10' Jon on the monocacy for the first time
plad99frc  06/09/2010 - 14:43  Boating  Monocacy    Gonna do some fishing out of my jon boat this weekend on the monoc for the first time. I was gonna put in at the walmart and go to Pinecliff. Anyone thinks theres a better route in the frederick area? Also, if anyone who has taken a similar rig out on the monocacy got any advice. Ill be using a small trolling motor. Thanks!

poorboy08  07/01/2010 - 14:15    Try Mummaford Road where it crosses the Monocacy. Sometimes it's a little shallow and you'll have to pull your yak and or boat, but once you get down the river a little ways there is some good fishin'. Me and a couple buddies yak there a lot, last time I fished it last year we caught about 25 small mouth between the both of us on rooster tails.

Brings back some memories
smalljaw  06/10/2010 - 04:29    That is a good route. Take your time in that first mile or so. There is a bunch of good fishing just south of the walmart ramp. Enjoy the float Plad and let us know how you do.

Beware and Be careful
Captwalleye  06/09/2010 - 17:45    If your floating by yourself you'll have to be careful of a couple places that are shallow and rapids. Not big ones but ones you'll most likely have to pick up your vessel and manuver through.
It's a beautiful float and I'm sure you'll enjoy yourself. It'll take you all day so be prepared with food and drink.
Good luck, enjoy and let us know how you do.

Thanks fellas
plad99frc  06/10/2010 - 10:48    Ill let you know how it goes : )

back from the little river
plad99frc  06/19/2010 - 14:03    I actually had to postpone my trip to this am. It was much shorter then i originally intended due to time constraints. I put in at the rt 26 walmart and took out after the first bridge on gas house. I fished for a couple hours and loved it! My 10' jon worked out great for that body of water. In total i landed 6 smallies with the biggest being around 14". I also lost a couple and landed 1 rock bass and saw lots of carp. There were a couple stretches that weren't really fishable but there was a few stretches of deep pools that were good. I already cant wait to get back there. Anyone have any advice in some other good routes? Great weekend to fish, good luck to everyone.

Nice work
Steve826  06/20/2010 - 12:41    Sounds like a very nice day on the river.

Would you recommend that stretch of river for wading? I waded to the left of the Wal Mart ramp once last year and had poor luck. I'm wondering if to the right of the ramp towards Gas House is any better.

Thanks.

wading
plad99frc  06/21/2010 - 08:58    The fishing was ok to the right of the boat ramp and it would be good to wade from there (about 2 feet deep). The better fishing was after the first "rapids" when the water was deeper. At that point i could not touch bottom with my oar. The water may have been around 5' deep .
