I'm Ready - It's Go Time
muskalungee  03/23/2010 - 20:21  Boating    Well, I'm back from my sabbatical. I typically use the Winter to work on my boat, but I decided to pick up a new hobby this fall/winter...bow hunting. But I guess that's a story for another board, but here's the result:

Anyway, The Duder and I spent the last few weeks working on my boat. It started with the purchase of a new trolling motor and turned into a complete overhaul of the front deck. We decided to pull the front deck off completely to clean up the wiring and I decided that instead of putting treated plywood back on there I would endeavor to test my sheet metal skills and go with an all new aluminum deck. Then, I decided that I wanted to incorporate some real storage in there...so I bought some hatches on clearance at Cabella's....then of course I had to re-carpet the front deck. So, we're done and just in time for the river to be down at a reasonable level.
Here's the original front deck & trolling motor:

And the new look front deck with hatches & 80# Minn Kota Fortrex:

Are you ready? I am!

muskalungee  03/24/2010 - 09:07    Dave,
I took a quick look at the site and I didn't see any info about the 3D shoots. Is it something I have to sign up for in advance or can I just show up? Thanks for the info, I know The Duder & Spotthogg were interested as well. You can send me an email/PM if you prefer.

Been a long time, would love to hang out with you again.

Congrats on your new hobby!
jackson  03/24/2010 - 04:25    Just as addictive as fishing! I've been hunting those critters with a bow for well over 35 years! As soon as the seasons over I'm can't wait for next Sept.! Boat looks great! My 1750 Jet is still sitting stripped! May just sell as is sense I do not know if I'll get back into running the river again? Know anyone who might be interested? Good luck during Vacation! Good Luck, Jackson!!

Definitely addictive...if not worse
muskalungee  03/24/2010 - 09:13    Jackson,
First of all, I just read your post about your health! Glad you're feeling better brother, we want to keep you around!

re: bow hunting - I know EXACTLY what you're talking about. I was amazed at how much it was like fishing. I took much the same approach, trying to pattern the deer and figure them out and ended up with much the same result...sometimes they just don't do what they are supposed to do! :D

It was all a great learning experience for me, and I was bound and determined to get a deer...and on my last outing of the year in Jan...I finally did. My first opportunity/shot came early in the season, and I missed a 6 ptr from about 15 yards. That was the first time I ever shot my bow (which I purchased 2 weeks earlier) from a tree stand. I learned more from that miss than I learned the entire season.

As for the boat, I will keep and ear out. Any idea what you're looking to get for it?

space inwaders  03/23/2010 - 20:56    Good to hear you're getting back at those fish Mike, they've been asking me where you went!

Nice work on the boat too, looks good.

I'm not a hunter, but good work there too, i respect bow hunting, gives them more of a sporting chance.
