UPPER POTOMAC.....NEED HELP ASAP
ogbudha  03/21/2010 - 08:45  Friends of MDfishing.org  Potomac    We are doing another recovery effort tommorow AND WE NEED HELP.

We are planning to electrofish the pool at Big Woods (between Taylors and Dam 4) on Monday. Our earlier recovery efforts saved the lives of several hundred fish. As the water drops ( which it is quickly doing) we need to react as quickly as possible.

I need 10 people to assist the DNR/NPS tommorow. I specifically need individuals who are going to be in chest high, muddy, cold, rock infested, logjamb filled water. ( paints a pretty picture doesnt it?) I need thick chest waders, no slip ( no felt) boots ,etc. Individuals should be prepared to get dirty and work very hard in and around boulders, downed trees and mud. This is very labor intensive work and in very difficult work environment.
WHAT TO BRING:
-Chest waders ( neoprene or breathable)
- Seine nets
- throw nets
- long handled nets
- 5 gal buckets ( working w/ Lowes and Home Depot to donate)
- change of clothes
- food and water for yourself.
- cell phone/camera ( for documentation and communication)
- plenty of sleep the night prior
- a positive attitude, regardless of how many fish are recovered per. portion of canal

We are starting our recovery efforts tommorow at 9am.
Interested parties can email me at fishpotomac@ msn.com ASAP. As always..questions,concerns? EMAIL ME.

Thanks,
Ben Hynes

I re-posted this on another local fishing in MD web site, so hopefully that will gain you a couple volunteers. Good luck.

it was a good time
space inwaders  03/22/2010 - 22:33    I helped out with the fish rescue today, along with capt walleye, and Mr Hynes (OG buddha's father), and a few other guys. Everyone was good company, and it was an enjoyable day for me at least. We pulled out a bunch of big carp, a few smallies, a few gills and rock bass, and one really nice sized walleye from the canal.

There's going to be a couple more of these in the coming days/weeks and i encourage anyone who can to attend. It was a fun and rewarding experience.

Thanks to John, Mark, and Josh of DNR and all the volunteers.

Yes, it was
Captwalleye  03/24/2010 - 04:29    It was good to finally meet you Steve, and a pleasure to work along side you and the others. That was quite an experience.I got to catch my first Smallie of the year by hand.I'm talking barehanded, just reach down and picked it right out of the water.Along with just about everything else that swims in the river.
You had to be there to really appreciate what we dealt with and how.
Everybody pitched right in and accomplished quite a goal. It's not over yet,so just as Steve says and I concur.WE ENCOURAGE ANYONE,WHO CAN ATTEND.TO DO SO!
As also said..."THANK YOU VERY MUCH"! John,Josh, and Mark of the Maryland DNR for providing the equipment, expertise, and guidance to help give back to a friend that provides so many with so much.

heres a quick link on the matter
