Farm Pond 10-10-09
Steve826  10/10/2009 - 13:36  Trip Reports  Farm Pond  Roll Your Own    My dad and I fished a Frederick County farm pond today from 8-12. Cloudy morning with off and on rain showers. The wind was pretty strong for the first 2 hours which made casting parallel to the shore pretty tough. I caught a total of 7 fish, 6 LM and a bluegill. My first 2 came on a 1/4 ounce red/white buzzbait burned parallel to the grass that was growing close to shore. I had a an additional 2 or 3 strikes on the buzzbait that didn't get hooked because I was fishing it pretty fast.

During this time I also threw a split shot rigged 7 inch Power Worm in pumpkinseed and a 1/16 ounce Floating Rapala. The Power Worm got a ton of bites, at least 8-10, maybe more, but I couldn't seem to hook any on it! I know they were bass too because one threw the hook at the surface, it looked like a solid 2 or 3 lber.

My dad started with a 7 inch Power Worm in green pumpkin on a jig head which also got a few bites, including 1 good one he lost a few feet from shore. He finally hooked up with a nice 14 inch LM on a 4 inch Zoom grub in watermelonseed.

After that we threw a few other things for a while (finesse worms, poppers, Gulp! Nightcrawlers) with nothing to show for it. Then my dad tied on a Mepps #2 and caught a dink bass on his first cast. I tied on the same thing, and on my second or third cast, same thing, a dink LM. For the rest of the day, it was fast action on the Mepps. I caught 4 small LM around 7-9 inches long each, plus a 6 inch bluegill, all on a Mepps # 2 with gold blade, worked at a pretty good speed.

It wasn't 18 or 19 and there weren't any 8 lbers but there were a few solid buzzbait fish and some fast action as well. Not a bad morning at all!
