Walk To Fight Diabetes
Steve826  09/03/2009 - 18:06    Hello all,

First off, I apologize in advance if I offend anyone by posting a personal topic unrelated to fishing on this site. However, I feel that I since I have been a regular member on here for almost two years, it wouldn't be out of line to post this, and if Mike & Jeff don't want this on here, they can delete it and I'll understand.

As you may or may not know, (most of you probably do not) I am a type 1 diabetic. I have been since I was 8 years old, and I am now 16. Type 1 diabetes (also known as "juvenile" diabetes, as most cases occur in young people) is a disease that impacts millions of Americans, young and old. There is no known cause for type 1 diabetes, although many there are many theories that it is an autoimmune disorder. Unfortunately, as of today there is no known cure. However, technology is improving every year and we are getting closer and closer to a cure. The sad truth is, while insulin shots keep me alive and healthy, they are only my "lifeline", they will not ever rid me of this disease. Many people do not realize this or the severity of the disease, and how difficult it is to manage it on a daily basis.

I am participating in the American Diabetes Association Walk to Fight Diabetes this October. If anyone here would like to help fight diabetes, you can sponsor me. Any donations of any size are greatly appreciated. If you would like to make a donation, please visit this site:

Thank you very much in advance for your help to end diabetes.

God bless,

Steve

Steve, I did not know that y
TightLine  09/11/2009 - 11:10    Steve,
I did not know that you had diabetes. Please make sure you follow the doc's orders and take care of yourself. One of my oldest friends has had diabetes since he was in his 30's (54 now) and at times has not heeded the dr.'s advice. He has had so many near misses, and it scares me that one day I'm going to get a call with the some real bad news. I always take a bag of M&M candies when we go fishing, and have had to use them once. Please make sure all of your friends and family know the signs of a person gowing into shock, and what to do if they suspect it. I have witnessed it four times, first-hand with my friend. Once was on a phone call where I had to hang up with him, and call somebody local to go check on him. I apologize for my rant, but I'm authorized, cause I'm old, and that is what old people do :)

Best of Luck,
-TL

Thanks Jeff

Good Cause
smalljaw  09/04/2009 - 09:19    and one that doesn't get enough attention these days. I challenge everyone to give whatever they can. I know times are not the greatest right now but I don't see any reason why we can't help Steve meet his very reasonable goal.

I have pinned this post at the top of the page for a week or two.

Thanks,
Smalljaw
