I've still been at it, but luck has been sparse. However, saturday the 1st was an exceptionally good day on the water!
Little bit of rain the night before, river was up about 6", stained in some areas.
I fished my new good luck area, using a 4" chartruse grub on a 1/8oz and later 1/16 oz jig heads. I fished A couple hours before dark til dark.
After a what felt like a while- some life on the line, just a slight tick. The stubborn nose diving, and slow tail pulsation felt like a wally. A pretty 18"er or so was to blame.
I kept at it and hooked and lost another that felt a little bigger. Then a channel cat about 15" jumped on, and fought really well.
I moved down the bank a bit and not long after a strong fighter is on the line. A 22.5" walleye.
Already a great evening out, but i kept at it. They were there, and they were biting.
A little smallie took the grub after a while, and not much else. I switched lures, and within a couple casts something big! This thing was tough, and wild, i thought it was a musky at first (not that i've ever landed one!)
Got her near shore and didnt have my net handy, so i luckily grabbed her by the gill and supported her belly as a made my way to my tackle bag. Took out the camera, battery died, changed the battery, set the flash, set the timer, held the fish, the camera fell over before the picture snapped. Then when the flash went off the fish shook free onto the ground a few inches below it, the line knocked the camera into the mud. I got it all back together, wiped the mud from the fish and got a poor pic. Time was ticking and this fish needed to get back into the water, i measured her quickly at 28", and fat!! I took her upstream to where the shoreline was free of nasty thick algae, nose to the current, and held her tail and belly loosely for a couple minutes. She eventually swam off strongly.

wow.. what a fish, this is why i go 2x a week. Doesn't matter how long it takes, its worth it.
get out there folks, and good luck.
