daylight wallys
space inwaders  07/10/2009 - 20:46  Potomac  Roll Your Own    i've been going alot lately with not alot of fish. Tons of people, everywhere I go, and that means poor fishing, but they love being out maybe almost as much as i do=)

I lucked into a quick evening trip on a jet a week ago or so, with Dan of www.fish&floatadventures.com, besides scoping out a few areas for an upcoming client, Dan really wanted to show me a couple areas i could hit from the shoreline and the crazy idea was wallys in the light of day.

We checked out a few places, many of which i had hiked to before, or had been meaning to. The one very productive area was interesting because the bank and bottom seemed muddy, 3-5' deep on the graph in the boat. Really not where you'd expect to find em.

This spot was holding fish, we landed several short smallmouth, and a few 19-21" wallys.

I went back the next day and found the area from the shore and practiced a different way to retreive a jig. My efforts were well received with a 27"er taking a 3" bright green curly tail within few minutes.

Annie and i kept at it because we KNEW there's fish in the area. A 21"er followed about an hour later. Unfortunately annie didn't get one, but she did catch a little smallie and a gill' at a spot we fished earlier.

Steve826  07/14/2009 - 09:11    Spep,

Dan is a good guy and definitely one of the better guides in the region. He has given me many tips on fishing in the area's lakes at no cost, so I don't think it's about $$....for the record (Steve correct me if I'm wrong) I also don't believe this was a guided trip for $$? I believe Dan offered to take Steve with him for a scouting trip for an upcoming client. Just my 2 cents.

spep  07/14/2009 - 05:27    It is not the habitat that keeps fish at this spot. It is the water temp. Your guide knows this all too well, but opted not to mention it. That really is a great spot and it breaks my heart that someone is now charging people $ to take them there. I guess all good things must end. One more great spot bites the dust. sp

not sure
space inwaders  07/16/2009 - 11:55    Hey Spep- not sure if we're talking about the same area. We were watching water temps, and talking about areas with springs, deep water, and the habits of the fish through the year. He mentioned many other places that i need to check out on my own.

He didn't charge me a cent for this trip, like Steve826 mentioned it was a quick scouting trip and he invited me to go along. I didn't mention that, b/c i dont want people bombarding him with that kind of request.

good luck when you go!
