Hardcore OFF shore - fishing with the OG - 5-27
space inwaders  06/01/2009 - 18:42  Trip Reports    Ben was nice enough to invite me out on the whitewater pontoon raft to float a nice stretch of river. It was great for me having never been on a boat in the up, and floating a section that i never fish. The reason i never fished this section is from the sky it looks fairly featureless, and access from shore is not easy. In reality this section had tons of great structure. We did a mid-day float, and hoping for some nice smallies, and you KNOW i was bottom bouncing the mid river depths for a chance at a wally in the daylight.

Its funny, on shore i fish one or two areas with dozens of casts, on the raft we fished dozens of spots with one or two casts at each one.

It was GREAT to get out, good times, good fun, but not real good fishing. We found the "no pattern pattern" fish were nearly anywhere, and hit nearly any lure, any color. But action was slow and most were dinks. I was caught 6" smallies on a 5" jerkbait!

Ben got one nice largie about 16" or so and fat, and a nice smallie around 15 or so inches. I got a suprise 18-20" cat on a spinnerbait of all things, and the way it fought we both though it was a good smallie. I also hooked into a good smallie, just as we floated past a nice boulder into fast current. The fish shook the hook at the surface, we got a glimpse of her at least.

All in all I thought it was great, fishing to my standards was pretty normal, but Ben was dissapointed with the quality of fish. Hey it was a great time and we'll be back for them!

good luck and get out there! Thanks again Ben we need to do that again!

Good Times!!
ogbudha  06/01/2009 - 21:00    The fast current didnt allow us to fish many of the areas I wanted to...low/summer flows will allow us to fish slower and work the better areas.

It was a blast to put a face with the name...check your phone...well get back out again when the fish cooperate a lil' better. This has been the worst spring in years for quality/numbers. Im scratching my head, as are many of the folks who fish this stretch. When things drop or get stable well get back out.
