Swiss Army Boat - What a way to wake up!
muskalungee  04/24/2009 - 10:12  Boating    I woke up two Saturday's ago to head to the river with theDUuder, and before I got dressed to head to the river I decided to look out my bedroom window to see how hard it was raining. It was raining really hard, but I was excited to hit the river again this AM. After all, I had caught my first C class smallie the day before. As I look across the front yard something just didn't look right. I rubbed my eyes and looked again. Then I yelled, "OH NO, my boat is at the bottom of my driveway!"

You see, I have a very steep driveway. And last night after returning from the river I pulled my truck up to the level area at the top, but the boat was on the incline. I've done this countless times before, so it isn't a big deal. This picture was taken from where I parked the boat, you can see where it was when I woke up:

Here is a closeup of where it was when I woke up:

Fortunately for me, this tree is at the bottom of the hill:

If the tree wasn't there, the boat and the truck would have gone right over the bank and down onto the road:

Here's some of the damage: (the trailer)

(my truck)

As you can see, this could have been MUCH MUCH worse. The worst part of the whole thing is I can't figure out how it happened. The first thing I checked was to see if it was in gear, and it was. My E-brake doesn't work all that well, but the truck was still in gear. We had a wicked wind and rain storm that night, so the only ting I can think of is that the wind rocked the boat enough to make it start sliding the truck down the hill.

HookUp  05/04/2009 - 07:49    Mike, you get the trailer fixed or buy a new one?

Read where you were on the river with Twinky boy in your boat, so assumed it's floating again.

Nothing beats dumb luck

Dayum Mike!
TightLine  04/26/2009 - 09:36    That was a close one. We got some frost on the cars two nights recently, but no way the driveway froze...hmmmm...that's weird.

Chock blocks from now on?

Sorry About Your Troubles !!

OOUUCCHH!!
space inwaders  04/24/2009 - 20:37    I'm assuming its a manual transmission- it could have popped out of gear. Did you shift into gear before shutting the engine off or after?

If the engine is off, and especially if you dont use the clutch when you put it in gear, it wont fully get into gear even though it may feel ok. If the clutch is disengaged the gearbox is loose enough to let everything mesh just right.

The trailer broke between 2 reinfoced areas of the main box tube thats kinda cool to see how physics plays on the design of the trailer. I see rust, so its steel? If the rear section isnt bent or twisted, somebody might be able to repair it pretty easily.

The timing was right on the C class- wish i could have gotten out friday that week, i think saturday and sunday were ruined b/c of too much rainfall.

It could have been worse for sure. Its cool to see the luck in an unlucky event.

Get your waders ready buddy!
