3/15/09 *OLD POST EDIT*
space inwaders  03/15/2009 - 01:53  Trip Reports    It should have been time, we'd been trying, keep trying and eventually...

We arrived to an area that gets serious pressure, but we fished a lesser known spot away from the area where everyone fishes.

Within 15 minutes I had a good fish on and lost. I was using a 3" sinking rapala. Soon after and another good fish, and a great fight! 26"er, a C class wally!

Minutes later Annie connects with a good fish using a 3 3/4 diawa- 23"er.

I never expected this, but many more followed. Several 24 and 25 inch fish, along with a bunch of 21-22 inch fish. We only caught 2 smaller ones 14" and 16" or so. The bite slowed after dark, but was steady until we left. Annie got a surprise 16" largemouth too.

What an amazing night, we lucked into a bunch of quality fish and they were all fighters. I cant say i've had a better time on the water period! Simply amazing what can happen if you put in the time.

Those Fish are Awesome!
DanMarino  04/13/2009 - 18:00    Totally cool Steve. Those fish are awesome!

I should be able to get out on the river sometime within the next two weeks. I was able to get a boat so hopefully that will increase the fishing opportunities for my son and I. Still hope to catch our first walleye soon.

Wow
muskalungee  03/18/2009 - 21:25    Nice work dude, I'm really glad your hard work is paying off. It's quite impressive what you've learned in the past year, you're really smoking 'em man. Those are some pig eyes.

Muskalungeeeeeeee!

eatem!
space inwaders  03/17/2009 - 18:40    I usually release everything i catch, but I'll definitely keep a few every now and then. Just the small ones. Its a nice bonus, but i do love seeing them swim way to live on.

days later
space inwaders  03/16/2009 - 20:53    Since thursday was so amazing, we tried it on saturday night, along with a good friend of mine, the Kuun. We found 7 aggressive males and lost a couple more. The Kuun outfished annie and i using a 4 3/4 sjb with 4 fish, the largest about 20"

Same place, same lures, i guess the big females were down to business or had moved on or retreated back downstream. I'm sure they'll come in waves for the next month or so if conditions improve or stay the same.

That day was incredible, right place right time, i'd have to say, we were blessed.

we went out sunday again, same place, similar conditions, it was dead.

I think i had one on for a few seconds, but lost it. Nothing else in 5 hours, not even a bite. Its amazing how variable fishing can be, how picky the fish are or how they move from place to place.

Stopped by another descent place on the way home, fished about an hour and a half, nothing... thats how it goes, i think its all beacause we planned to eat walleye for dinner!

I must have missed you on Sunday!!
REB9  03/17/2009 - 17:27    I fished Sunday up that way from 1:30PM to 3:30PM. Fished grubs. I caught 7, with one real big girl (28 inches).. Fish shut down around 3PM and I didn't get a hit up to the point when I left...

REB9  03/15/2009 - 07:22    Are the females roe'd out yet?? With the water so low, I just haven't had the urge to head up that way to try for the girls...

Keep on em!

REB9

space inwaders  03/18/2009 - 23:02    that day... those females were fat as can be. We had 22" fish that were 14" girth.
