Bad Omen? - First Cast of '09 & A C-Class
muskalungee  03/14/2009 - 12:47  Trip Tools

A little late on this report, but had a great trip last week on the big river with CannonExpress. The weatherman was calling for 50 degree temps with 20MPH sustained winds....and he was right for once. We launched at around 11AM and made the quick trip to the first spot. It looked like it was going to be calm(er), but it wasn't....the wind was ripping all day. My first cast of the year (for smallies) produced a hit....I almost didn't know what to do b/c I wasn't expecting it. I really wasn't ready at all, and poor Chris though I had a monster b/c my drag was so loose. :D It ended up being a chunk 14", I'm not complaining.

We fished for another 4 or 5 hours, and hit the usual pre-spawn spots. The wind made everything more difficult, but we ended up with 8 or so in the boat. The biggest of the day being Chris's 20.25" beast (which I almost knocked off with the net).

The pattern was simple. If you noticed the wind was dying down..CAST...count to 3...and set the hook! While the wind made for difficult fishing, the lack of fish certainly enabled us have some awesome conversations and fellowship. That was a trip I will probably remember for the rest of my life. Thanks for letting me tag along Chris, it was a blast.

LYALL  03/17/2009 - 06:37    Darn nice fish guys I hope to be out on a river near you real soon

Enjoyed that trip...
cannonxpress  03/16/2009 - 23:18    Not sure what I enjoyed more about that trip, the awsome fellowship or catch'n pigs in gale force winds. It was nice to finally get out with you Mike. Look'n forward to wensday.

If I was a bett'n man I'd say your "C" will come before april gets here. Just a matter of time, its gonna happen....trust me.

-Chris

Lets start a pool!
REB9  03/15/2009 - 07:26    Ok Ben, how long till Mike catches a "C" ???

Possible outcomes:

1- Before the end of March
2- Before the end of April
3- Before the end of June
4- Nah, never happen

Great report Mike. Keep on em....

REB9

pool...hmm
ogbudha  03/15/2009 - 12:28    I think this will be Mikes year. I am concerned with the minimal amount of water we have currently....we need rain.

If Mike keeps fishing w/ Chris his bound to get on one. The best weve ever done together were the chunky 17-18's. I think hell peg one in the end of may. But hell also have to geto ut and fish..which he hasnt been doing as much of. Quality time..not quanity of time..right Mike?

nice rewards
space inwaders  03/16/2009 - 20:47    Muskalungee's always getting out in the brutal conditions, he inspires me to do the same.

Mike's definitely got a 20"+ comming soon, I say before end of march.

I'd like to think a 14" smallie on the first cast and more through the day is a good omen for the year! That 20" is beautiful, huge head on that fish...
