TightLine  11/27/2008 - 18:27  Trip Reports  Liberty  Roll Your Own    Hit Liberty again. I got in the water about 11:00 a.m. I decided I wanted to fish something different, so I headed to some old house foundations in 20-35 feet of water. It's a pretty long ride, so I decided to take it easy and troll all the way...thought I might happen upon a striper. Anyway, I could not believe I didn't catch a fish. I thought the vertical structures right on the edge of the creek channel would pay off...but it wasn't to be. I vertical jigged a blade bait, and slowly pulled a big "jig and pig" through all the structures, but didn't even get a tap. Water dropped another degree to 48.9, had a stiff cold wind blowing. When I got home I checked the air temps...39 degrees. The pellet stove sure felt great. I'll be back out on Friday...

Well, I went Friday
TightLine  12/04/2008 - 16:00    and got skunked again...I believe I know what part of the problem is (other than me being hard-headed). I think the fish must be shallower than the depth I've been fishing. I've been hitting the depth that works when the lake stratifies, but since the water is cooler, they probably only go as deep as they need to, depending on the light penetration. I'm going to try a slow-rolled spinnerbat, and a deep crank on all of the spots I've been working to see if that works. I wish I could have gotten out today, cuz it looks like we are in for some colder weather. No matter what, I always learn something when I'm out there...if nothing other than what's not working. :)

I didnt even see many minnows around. Water temp was posted approx 40 deg., weather was cloudy with a low steady barometer, mid 40s during the day to low 30s at night.
