space inwaders  11/17/2008 - 01:10  Trip Reports    This week i tested a theory on fishing and i fished nearly every evening. I had some decent luck, no big fish, but its always good to go. Saturday was looking to be the best day weather wise. Warm, rain had been falling, the river and water temp had risen a little.

We arrived about 5 o'clock. This is a place i used to fish alot, looks great, and never produced much. First cast- about 1/2 of the way back and something strong bites. Drag pulls, i struggle to keep it away from rocks and i was lucky to land a 25"x14".

This the largest fish i've seen from this particular area, and its great to know i can find them there.

2 casts later and i could see my lure 3' under the surface, 20' from my feet, and see mr wally come up from the depths, strike and u-turn back down. A nice fighting 20".

About an hour after the two initial fish and I hear drag slipping- she's got something good! She's also using a M 6'6" thats wimpy, and i set the drag too loose. I helped dial in the drag and after a while, the fish is close to shore. I scoop her (the fish, not my girl) up in the net and find a nice fat 26"x14". A new personal best for her.

Another hour of steady casting without a bite, and i decided to make a cast farther out. Working the SJB slowly, bumping a rock or two, and i feel the weight and head shake at the end of the line. After another good fight, 23" or so.

Just after the last fish, the wind changed, and the bite ended. We fished a while longer with no more action.

We really lucked into some good fish this evening.

go soon and good luck!
Awesome
muskalungee  11/24/2008 - 10:38    Man, you are tearing them up. Keep on 'em man, and BTW your reports are awesome. People should take note of your style and how you focus on the "story" of your trip and include "hows" and "whens"....not the "wheres".

Nice Catch!
REB9  11/17/2008 - 19:04    Looks like you've figured out the right stuff! I've found that dry lures catch few fish. One thing is constant, if you aren't trying you aren't catching.

The weather can make a difference.

Keep at em!

weather and more
space inwaders  11/17/2008 - 20:52    I like that, a dry lure doesn't catch fish. For a while i was thinking thats all there is to it- be there, fish, and something will bite when its ready. Changes in temps, flow/water level, and time of day are all important, but there's at least one more factor that has proven critical for me. My best catches have happened at a very specific time.

Excellent!
Captwalleye  11/17/2008 - 05:05    You two are doing exceptionally well.Put the time and effort in and your going to get results.Your photos prove that.
Check out the DNR site out and get the info for submitting your fishin partner's big fish in for a "Catch and release"citation. It meets the requirements. Stay on em!

thats right
space inwaders  11/17/2008 - 20:54    Thanks for reminding me of the catch n release citation, we'll check into that more.
