Pond Trip 9/18
Steve826  09/18/2008 - 20:34  Trip Reports  Impoundments  Roll Your Own    Went out this evening to the pond from 5:45-7:45. Only caught one fish, a small bluegill. It was kinda pathetic. Between me and my dad we tried six different lures: spinnerbaits, suspending jerks, texas rigged lizards, grubs, tubes, and hula poppers. Not really much to report. The water was very muddy and the ground was very wet. i think it flooded over a little with all those hurricane rains the last few weeks. Hopefully the fishin gets better soon, or I get better at it :) Ah well it was a nice night to be out, and it was good to be out for the first time in 3 weeks. Hey Capt, if you read this, i'm gonna be sending you a PM soon about a pond trip in the next couple of weeks.

pond fishing
ogbudha  09/19/2008 - 19:55    Generally pond fishing is always pretty productive. The key is to fish a pond that isnt hit by the public. Heres a tip for you........grab an ADC map book and start flipping through local areas. Where you see a pond marked...go scout it out. If its on private property..go ask the property owners for permission. Tell them youll pick up any trash you see ( even if its not yours) and that you will release everything you catch. Its how I got started, and those private ponds can be full of virgin LUNKER bass. Give it a try. Public ponds and lakes get harrassed by the bucket brigade...go somewhere the public cant.

Steve826  09/19/2008 - 21:25    Ben, I think I'm gonna have to do that. While there usually isnt more then a few people there when I go, I ALWAYS find empty worm containers, coke cans, and other signs that the bucket brigade has been there. I even found a bag of split shots once. I'm getting sick of getting skunked, so I'm pretty sure I'm done fishing this pond. I'm gonna try my best to find a pond that isnt heavily fished, but I don't know how easy it will be. My dad has maps of Fred. County, Mont. County and Wash. County that show bodies of water on them so I will search as hard as I can to find somewhere that I can actually catch fish at. I don't think it's anything I'm doing wrong since I have caught fish at this pond, just not many.

Is it possible that there are ponds that aren't owned by anyone that aren't at a public park or anything? Basically, a pond that isn't fished often by the public but isn't privately owned?

Thanks for the tips, I am definatley going to use them.

Steve

There are a few..
ogbudha  09/20/2008 - 09:00    There are a few public ponds that are off the beaten path ( not many in Frederick Co.) Your best bet is to go explore and ask permission on private property. Think farm ponds.
