Tons Of Wildlife!

Got out to fish the "little river" Sunday morning for a few hours. Perfect weather and water color. Almost fall like as long as you remained in the shadows and out of the sun! The wildlife was very abundant and active during the early morning hours, almost to the point I found myself spending as much time just looking around as fishing! Seen doe with fawns as well as a groundhog crossing river. Also seen a mink scurrying through the roots of a blow down along the bank. Other mammals seen were squirrels, chipmunks, and muskrats. As far as bird life, I believe the only one not seen or heard was the turkey. Seen bald eagles, ospreys, hawks, variety of herons and ducks(no geese) and most notably to me anyway an American egret. It's strange but it seems to me when I was a kid fishing along the rivers with my Uncles during the 60's there were many more egretts than there were Great Blue Herons. Not so today. That's right I almost forgot this a FISHING forum! The best fish of the day was the first fish caught from the bank before I climbed into the boat. A scrappy 14"er off a small crankbait. During the next few hours caught well over 20 of all sizes. Should be great fishing for years to come with all the different age classes. Also many redears. Can not figure out how they get that little mouth and engulf a 3/16 weight, tube, and a 3/0 widegap hook! Well at least the hook anyway. Caught 2 off a buzzbait and the balance was a toss up between tubes and crankbaits. Caught couple of the smallest smallmouths I ever hooked on lures! I was thinking how cool they would be to have in an aquarium! One thing kind of strange though is that I have not caught the first greenfish from this stream this year. Where in the past several years I had quite a few?
