Rocky Gap St Park...dead sea
ogbudha  07/23/2008 - 06:22  Trip Reports  Impoundments  Roll Your Own    Hit Rocky Gap state park for a Md BASS fed tourney. Launched at 5am. I tossed buzzbaits until about 6:15am then switched to plastics. I landed 9 fish for the entire tourney and they were all fairly small. I had my limit of 5 keepers 35 minutes into the tourney on the buzzbait. The fish were small and I didnt think I had a chance to win. Well I was the only one to report a full limit for the entire tourney. I finished first. Ive fished many lakes in the st. this lake is horribly taken over with grass and the fishing is very tough. Only hit this lake in the spring or fall.......otherwise your wasting your time.
Congrats on the win, and than
Steve826  07/23/2008 - 10:31    Congrats on the win, and thanks for the report. Me and my family were planning a camping/fishing weekend in the spring for Rocky Gap but after hearing another report on a different website, and now your report, leads me to believe shore fishing would be extremely tough. Its all good though because there are some smaller lakes and ponds around here for me to fish without driving the 90 minutes to Lake Habeeb. That name has always made me laugh...Lake Habeeb..

That's Disappointing,
jackson  07/23/2008 - 07:08    I have not been there in well over 15 years. We used to go up their quite often when the kids were smaller and camp. Was always a challenge to conserve batteries over several days of fishing. Buzzbait was also my favorite bait at first/last light. Back then you had to be off lake at sunset. I believe it's open to fishing 24 hrs. day now? Way back when also caught decent smallies closer to damn. I believe maybe 15 or 20 years ago Md's state record LM was caught out of Habeeb on chicken liver! 10# plus? Can one launch a boat at any hour of morning or night? Good win though! Who do you fish for? Back in mid 80's I fished with Frederick Town Club. Good Luck, Jackson!!

HABEEB
ogbudha  07/23/2008 - 07:54    Dunno about hours of operation for the lake. I hit the dam area hard as thats where I was told theyd be...the grass is terrible. The vacationing immigrants were EVERYWHERE.....kind of a suprise to such a diverse group that far north.
I fish with the Antietam Bassmasters.
I didnt see any big fish but I am sure they are in there.....Ive heard of big smallies around dam area as well.......non caught this trip and we had 20 anglers.

Habeeb
Munkin  07/25/2008 - 14:27    I fished there earlier this year and just killed them on a finesse jig. Of course it was raining so hard I turned on the bilge pump! Try a drop shot as it does really well there this time of the year. Fish the bank at about 10o'clock postion from the ramp. They are always in those downed trees you just have to figure out what depth they are at. I catch tons of small SM at the dam on a DS in like 30+' of water.
