Any help?
BaconSlayer  06/06/2008 - 10:19  Friends of MDfishing.org  Monocacy  Roll Your Own    Has anyone had a chance to take a look at the mighty Monocacy? I was trying to do a float tomorrow but not sure what the water is like with the rain. With 100 degree temps tomorrow it would be nice to get out. Any help is greatly appreaciated!
Thanks for the help Jackson.
Steve826  06/08/2008 - 10:24    Thanks for the help Jackson. Makes things a lot easier :)

confused
Steve826  06/07/2008 - 19:17    I just checked and it said the Monocacy is at 3.25. I understand this is not that high, but what exactly does the number mean? I cant figure out what it is referring to. I'm guessing that 3.25 is not that high but if anyone could help me understand these gauges that would be helpful. Tomorrow evening me and my dad might head to the Monocacy for a little bank fishing so if anyone could help me out with the river gauge that would be great.

Thanks.

Steve, I'm not an expert
jackson  06/08/2008 - 03:54    Steve, I'm not an expert at these gauges, but the number basically means feet of water flowing at any given given gauge and location. In other words there is 3 feet 4 inches of water height at the Jug Bridge /Monacacy gauge at the particular time you checked the gauge. The link at the top of MDfishing.org home page will give you approx. a 4 day history of what the river is doing as far as water height. Depending on what time you read this post you can see where the river spiked way up over 6 feet after the Thursday afternoon thunder storms and now has settled down to almost 3 feet. This does not mean the whole river is at 3 feet, but only at this gauge. You need to build a history of what this gauge is reading and compare it to the sections of river to where you normally fish. As you will see it does not take much of a rainfall at times to raise the river quickly not to mention muddy. By the way I believe Monacacy means muddy river! You will soon build enough history to know what "normal" river flow/height is for your area(s). Steve, also check out the link, and go to " Monacacy Water Trail Maps" for additional information. The biggest thing to remember is to be very careful along the river after a heavy rainfall and when flowing high and muddy. Hope this helps some. Jack. Good Luck, Jackson!!

Its killing me!
BaconSlayer  06/07/2008 - 08:26    Thanks guys! You saved me enough money to get a new lure with gas prices the way they are! I havent been yet this year on the Monocacy and its killing me. What's even worse is seeing everyone killing it this year with new record fish!

JRS  06/06/2008 - 13:36    I was using this as a guage of height/flow: http://newweb.erh.noaa.gov/ahps2/hydrograph.php?wfo=lwx&gage=fdkm2&view=1,1,1,1,1,1,1,1&toggles=10,7,8,2,9,15,6

I considered anything below 3 ft and flow less than 0.8 to be acceptable, though I don't have a lot of experience with this.

I looked at it this morning a
bassin  06/06/2008 - 12:38    I looked at it this morning at RT 26 bridge its muddy but the level is dropping it has dropped 3 ft in the last 2 days. It was at 3.75 ft when I last checked it here. http://www.erh.noaa.gov/marfc/Stages/files/POT.POT.FDKM2.html
The Potomac is comming up fast so I guess thats out for this weekend.
