Liberty Sunday 5/18
TightLine  05/23/2008 - 12:11  Trip Reports  Liberty  Roll Your Own    I went out very early Sunday morning and had a couple of half-hearted strikes at top-water plugs early, but no hook-ups. Quite a bit later, my partner caught one dink fish on a jitter bug fished close to a pile of rocks sticking out of the water. I finally got a chunky 2 pounder (on a tube) under the 26 bridge, on a hump in 22 feet of water. It was a slow morning...the amazing thing to me was the water temps...63 degrees. I went back and looked at a post of mine from exactly one month ago, and the water temp was the exact same. I guess all of this rain and cooler weather really knocked it down a bunch. I'm not sure how high the water temps got before they went down, because I haven't been out.

The good news is that the weather is supposed to improve, so I'm hopefull that I can get out there Monday morning. Also, I have a trip planned for a small lake in the North East Kindom of Vermont for the first week of June. I've fished the lake before, and there are tons of 3-4 pounders. I can't wait!

Ditto On Sunday!
jackson  05/24/2008 - 07:08    I experienced the same thing last Sunday! See my post of 5/15/08. Water temp down to 62! With the warmer night temps holding next week things surely should pick up considerably. Good Luck, Jackson!!

It is definitley pretty stran
Steve826  05/23/2008 - 17:46    It is definitley pretty strange that the water is as cold as it is. I got a few topwaters at Wal Mart today, I'm hoping the water temps will hit 70 or so, so the topwater bite starts to turn on. Its supposed to be in the 80s all weekend so that should bring up the water temp. The fishing on Sunday and Monday should be real good.

Have fun up north, sounds like you'll have a good trip.

Steve

Water temps
muskalungee  05/23/2008 - 13:38    I was also amazed at my trip on Monday, the river was at 57 degrees! Just a month ago it was climbing and had gone over 60. Should be real good fishing around here in the next week if we can avoid any cold rain.

From my experience, the 3rd day of a warming trend is money.

Muskalungeeeeeeee!

especially
ogbudha  05/24/2008 - 11:56    especially true when you have stable barom. pressure and a slight lift in the river flow be it height or cfs. Those 2 combined with the warming trend equal LUNKERTIME
