Pattern Changed Overnight!
jackson  04/25/2008 - 18:02  Trip Reports  Black Hills    It never ceases to amaze me how lake fish change up in matter of hours, especially this time of year. You can pretty much throw out every thing I posted regarding my fish report for Thursday. Fished Boyds from 8 till 3 o'clock. Pretty much had in my mind when I started that I was going to attempt to duplicate what I did yesterday. NOT! First thing I noticed was that much of the stain had settled out overnight. However,. water temps. were up to 68/70 degrees. There was very little wind to speak of first thing. With the water cleaner and no wind I anticipated there would not be a good crankbait or spinnerbait bite. I soon proved that to be correct! Stubbornly I knew it was time to down size. First tried 4" ring worm, then 6" lizard. After nothing switched to a 3" tube, 3/0 widegap, and a Pegged 1/32 worm weight. Bingo! All the fish caught came off some sort of wood in 4-7 feet of water. In all had over 20 fish with this setup. However, nothing over 2 lbs. But a lot of fun and excitement on 8# Fluorocarbon and spinning equipment! I pretty sure all these fish were males. Not sure if they were nest building, spawning and/or in the guard mode. The last decent 3-4 lb. fish I caught yesterday appeared to have spawned out.? Unlike thursday the shore cover was alive with ctitters. Next time I go need to make sure I have some fisherman's glue to keep the tube in place! Good Luck, Jackson.
It sure is amazing how you ca
