Liberty 4/18 Mixed Bag
TightLine  04/18/2008 - 19:38  Trip Reports  Liberty  Roll Your Own    Took off a couple hours from work and got on the lake about 2:30. I started on a wind blown point with a jerk bait and wham! thought I had a whopper smallmouth, but it was a 20 inch striper. It really put up a tussle on my light outfit. I headed back in a rocky cove and got one 15" smallie. I went through a pretty good dry spell, and then right before I was going to call it quits, I got suprised by a chunky 14' largemouth...I got real calm out, I wish the wind would have been blowing a bit, I think I would have done better.

edit: I forgot to mention, the water temps in the main lake 61, the warmest water I found was 63.

Ditto On Wind!
jackson  04/19/2008 - 02:44    I agree, always do better wind the wind is blowing. Especially in clear water. Got out Thursday and water was like the Dead Sea! Even though water temps. were up, I still could not get on a pattern. Did see my first bed though. Unlike the other day the parking lot was full! Hopefully, with the weather pattern changing again by Sunday, things will pick up. Good Luck, Jackson!

3 fish over 12 inches doesnt
Steve826  04/18/2008 - 19:44    3 fish over 12 inches doesnt sound like a bad day at all. I'm curious to why you wanted the wind blowing. I dont like fishing in the wind because it blows all my casts off target, but thats just me.

The Wind is Your Friend
TightLine  04/19/2008 - 06:21    Steve,
I could type a page of text as to why, but I will send you to a link, that explains it pretty well:

I do agree it makes casting, boat handling, and tying on lures, more difficult, but as I look back at most of the better days I've had fishing, there has been some wind, and conversely, some of my worse experiences have been when it was dead calm.
