A beautiful Tragedy
TheDuder  04/11/2008 - 22:30  Trip Reports  Potomac    The weather was wonderful today so I was planning on taking a half day and hittin up the links, until my bro, muskalungee, texted me to see if I wanted to hit up a river near you.. :) We put in around 345 or so and were on fish after a few casts. The first was a torpedo 16 inch smallie. After a few more casts I hooked into a fall fish. Lol that was no longer then the husky jerk I was using. Pretty good stuff.. After another hr and 3 more fish I hooked into the tail of a cat fish. Haha. whooops.. those fish are nuts. Then the fun began. Muskalungeee and I were debating on whether or not the storm clouds would bring rain or not. Ohhh and did they ever.. With the rain came 3 or 4 more smallies in a matter of 10 casts or so. And a walleye. Pretty sweet fishing. HOwever.. the rain kept on falling so we decided to put all our valuables in the wet dry bag. Which was a terrible Idea.. (I'll get back to that) AFter the rain stopped we knew we only had about another hr or so of light so we kept on fishing the ledges that stretch across the river. Picked up a couple dinks and decided to get our walleye on! No luck but after a monster strike which Muskalungee lost due to the line getting caught on the side of the boat and or motor (I'm sure the darkness didn't help). Once he retied, he noticed a sweet aroma comin from the motor. So we headed in for the nite. Great stuff.. soo back to the wet bag. When we got home we found out that the wet dry bag keeps in water just as well as it keeps it out. hmmph.. Mike's blackberry, iphone, and my cell phone were all siting in about 8 inches of water. hmm I knew I shoulda put it in a plastic bag.. ahh you live and learn I guess. WEll other than all the stupid crap that happened, we caught 11 smallies, a catfish, a walleye and a fall fish... not to bad for a 1/4 days work.
fuse
ogbudha  04/12/2008 - 12:43    Live well and bilge. Did you bump into the fuse panel below the toggle switches? or reverse wires when reconnecting batteries?

Unbelievable
muskalungee  04/12/2008 - 12:01    What a night. Steve forgot to mention that my livewell didn't work either. Nothing like troublshooting your livewell and bilge in the middle of a monsoon.

I'm still a bit upset about my iPhone, not sure what to do. I have her out in the garage right now in front of a small heated fan...it's worked before on other phones.

Steve also had a monster musky follow his lure all the way to the boat, but he forgot "the pause" and off she went.

Aerator Fixed
muskalungee  04/13/2008 - 15:39    I figured out the problem with my aerator this afternoon. The plastic prop on the bottom of the shaft had broken loose, but was hanging on just enough that it would spin when I first removed it to troubleshoot it. But when it had to spin in water the shaft would spin but the prop would stay still b/c of the force of the water.

Gorilla glue to the rescue, man I love this stuff. I just got it back together and tested it by sending some water in through a hose poked into a styrofoam cooler I had sitting around the garage and sat it on the boat so water would flow down into the intake in the stern. Booya, all fixed....for now. :D

As for the Blackberry & iPhone...they are hosed. Luckily the iPhone is still under warranty and the blackberry is owned by work...so I may make out pretty well after all.

I lost a cell phone last year
TightLine  04/13/2008 - 19:21    I forgot I had my phone in the lower pants pocket of my cargo shorts, and jumped in the water getting the boat back on the trailer...$84.00 dollars later...

Mike, try putting that stuff
NewtotheUP  04/13/2008 - 09:51    Mike, try putting that stuff in a ziplock with some instant rice. It'll suck the moisture out.

Whether or not the phone works properly again is another matter ;).

Now that you are untethered by your electronics
Huffnhustle  04/12/2008 - 05:19    I suggest you make haste and return to yesteryear when 24/7 was unknown. Cut the long leash and go fishin' until the new devices ship in. Ah, the memories of communing with nature and leaving it all behind. I do remember those days so fondly.

electronics
HookUp  04/15/2008 - 11:12    Nice job on the fish.

Now the electronics. Why do you need your crack-berry on the water? iPhone's only use is the wife calling telling you to get home. And on 1/2 the UP a phone doesn't work.

If you must, go buy a waterproof otter box. Mine has survived many dunkings and one boat sinking and the contents have stayed in tact.

I only use it for the camera.

Nothing beats dumb luck

Yea.. well the iphone was use
TheDuder  04/15/2008 - 19:18    Yea.. well the iphone was used to call the wife... and after muskalungee got the "ok" to stay out later he forgot to close the wet/dry bag.... and therefore all our electronics got soaked in the downpour on our way home.. ahh its all good cause I got an iPhone out of it..

I must say huff...
muskalungee  04/13/2008 - 20:17    Hey Huff,
I must say while I missed my gadgets this weekend, it was quite refreshing. Sadly, I never realized how addicted I am to them all and how much I check my email both work and personal. Sad, sad, sad.
