First Post Ever - Good Day at Seneca - Berkley Vanish line is horrible.
Chumlee 03/19/2008 - 09:30 Trip Reports Potomac

I have been reading the posts on this site for several years and enjoy everyone's fishing stories from around the area. My kids are small so I don't get out too often and I have never had any decent stories to contribute so I live vicariously through everyone else's stories. Keep them coming!
I was able to get my fishing partner Greg to bring the boat down to Seneca late yesterday afternoon. We anchored at a spot where he had some success in the past. Within minutes he had some bites and a great smallmouth was landed in about 15 minutes. I say it was in the four pound class but he says three. Greg caught another almost equal in size about 30 minutes later. He also caught a small largemouth. There was the one that got away as well. Greg hooked a smallmouth bigger than the first and just as it got close to the boat it spit the hook. It was a monster. I landed 2 healthy smallmouth, each around 2 - 2.5 lbs. Greg caught his on a jig and plastic trailer. Both of mine were caught on tubes. The lighter colors worked better yesterday.
The water was a little stained but not muddy. We fished for about 3 hours and endured about 1/2 hour of some light rain. Overall it was a real quality day. The kind that make you want to go back again real soon.
Oh yeah, I loaded two spinning reels with Berkley Vanish line late last year. I have fished a few times with it and after yesterday I stripped the remaining Vanish off the reels and threw it in the trash. The line got brittle and broke tying knots. It snapped during a cast and tangled and knotted several times. That stuff is garbage. Both of my fish were caught on my all purpose rod using Stealth line. I would like to hear if any of you have had similar problems with the fluorocarbon line?
I will try to upload a picture of one of Gregs fish. I may need some help in posting a pic.
