First day fishing in 08
Steve826  01/06/2008 - 20:15  Trip Reports  Potomac  Roll Your Own    Me, my dad, and my brother (Dan) decided to take advantage of the nice day outside to head up to the warm water fishing area and see what was bitin. We headed to Wal Mart after church to get our licenses for the new year (I dont need one for another year, but Dan and Dad do.) We also bought 2 packs of white grubs, some chicken livers, nightcrawlers, and weedless jig heads. Then we headed out to Dickerson. We got there about 2:45 and headed down the path to the river, and sort of slipped and slided down the muddy bank til we found a good spot. Started with the grubs on jig heads, and got nothin. Switched to the nightcrawlers after awhile. Again, nothing. Finally, we switched to the livers. Plenty of bites, but no hookups. There was one that almost dragged the rod out of my hand, but when I went to set the hook, Mr Whiskers took off and didnt come back. What I love about catfishin is the simplicity of it. You just rig up with a worm or liver, cast, and just wait, relax, and enjoy the outdoors. We ended up gettin skunked in 2 hours fishin, not really a surprise to me, but I still had a good time, and we found a good spot to bank fish the Potomac. Thanks to new member Huffnhustle for the tips he gave me on this area. I'm sure we'll start catchin em soon. I'm startin to realize how tough it really is to catch fish in the wintertime. I'm gonna keep tryin, but I aint gonna expect much until spring. Once spring comes, I know my fishin is gonna take off. The water was pretty murky, and the bank was VERY muddy and slippery. Water was pretty calm also. Oh well, I still had fun, and I'm lookin forward to goin again soon.

Thanks guys
Steve826  01/07/2008 - 10:27    I know I'll learn more everytime I go out. I can honestly say, I can't think of a time where I've gone where I haven't learned something about fishin that I will be able to use in the future. We get a few days off school in a couple weeks for semester break, and dad said he should be able to take a few hours off work one of those days to take me and Dan back out for some fishin. Can't wait til it warms up though. Springtime fishin is supposed to be the best.

Keep at 'em!
muskalungee  01/06/2008 - 23:23    Nice work Steve, keep at 'em man and you'll get on 'em. The more time you put in, the more you'll learn. The more you learn...the more you'll catch. That's all there is to it. Enjoy those times with your Pop and your brother, they are the things you'll remember when you grow up.

Yeah! What he said only....
Captwalleye  01/07/2008 - 06:10    I agree with Muskalungee's advice, the only thing I would add is to hit the CAP lock button and write it all in CAPITAL LETTERS with underlining and ended with an exclaimation point.
