Fishfinder?
smalljaw  10/31/2007 - 07:53  Technical Information
OK, I know that I don't NEED one but I WANT one for some stupid reason. So here is the question...I have been looking hard at the Eagle FishElite 480.

It has some things that I really want like being able to record GPS and SONAR data on a removable card. The downside is that is as expensive as a decent color unit without the GPS and recording features.

Bottom line is that I would like to hear praises and flames about Eagle products in general and if there are alternatives in the same or lower price range ($300-$400) that I should be seriously considering.

Everything in life is a trade so what am I missing that I might be trading away here.

Thanks,
Smalljaw
My Opinion
TightLine  10/31/2007 - 11:51    Hey Smalljaw,
I have been using Lowrance and Eagle products since my first "flasher" unit purchased back in '79. I also owned the old type of Lowrance chart recorder with actual paper roll and a stylus that burnt the info into the paper. I currently own a Eagle Fishmark 320 (got it on sale at Bass Pro for $139), and have an Eagle FishEasy 320c (eBay) on the way (color, can't wait). I have not had one single problem with any of my Lowrance or Eagle products.

As far as GPS capability, I myself would only find useful on a very large body of water, where it's very hard to triangulate your position. Also, I'm not sure how much you would actually use stored SONAR data, but that is entirely up to you.

I also think where you plan on mounting the unit, and how many units you plan on installing plays into which type to buy. If I was going to mount one on a small deck in the front of the boat, I might choose a smaller unit, just to conserve space, however, if space is not an problem, the larger screen units are definitely the way to go.

I'll PM you my phone number, and you can call, and we can talk fishfinders 'till the cows come home.

What ever you do, go with color
TightLine  11/04/2007 - 17:55    Smalljaw,
I got a chance to use my Eagle FishEasy 320c today. This is the first time I've ever used a color unit. I'm sold. I was able to distinguish baitfish, game fish, and structure MUCH better...

Trailer Disaster
smalljaw  11/05/2007 - 17:29    may end up putting this luxury on hold for a little bit. Story is for another day. Needless to say I am already out $150 and depending on other things I might be out another $100 or so to fix the problem.
