Reel Maintenance / Spinning reels
BaconSlayer  06/18/2007 - 14:41  Friends of MDfishing.org    I was hoping some of the people on here might be able to give me some tips on proper reel maintenance. Over the past several years I have accumulated several rods and reels that I try and take care of to the best of my ability. Does anyone know what things you should do to a rod/reel to keep it in proper smooth working order? I clean them with warm water after use but should I oil them and if so where? and with what kind of oil? and how often? I see things for sale but not sure of what to buy and how actually to use them. I am also afraid that if I start to take to much apart I wont be able to get it back together. Thanks in advance for any help.

muskalungee  06/20/2007 - 10:37    Hey Dave,
I too just started to pay close attention to my reels this off season. I used to take them apart and oil them when they started to fail, but this year I was a bit more pro-active and sent them out to have service. I sent mine to Mike Accord at Susquehannafishingtackle.com and he had them back to me in a couple of weeks. It was worth the money in my opinion b/c I've had quite a few times where I took them apart too much and couldn't get them together the right way.

But, if you ever need schematics or a parts guide (if you lose a screw), I found this site a long time ago:
Mike's Reel Repair

They have schematics for any reel you can think of. It's a very cool site.
